It's taking a lot of effort to keep from swearing extensively...
I've had my DMP-10 working again for several weeks after it seemingly failed. I just took the wet side off and cleaned it in citric acid, let it sit a while, tried it out again one day, and it worked fine.
Now I think I maybe know what happened last time.
I'm sitting here in my office, and hear awful sounds coming from it all of a sudden. Not "expensive" noises, per say, just loud and whooshy, but not quite "grindy".
Rush over, turn it off, pull the wet side off... there was a piece of gravel lodged between one of the propeller blades and the wall of the guard/cover... and a tuxedo urchin covered in random bits hanging out RIGHT above it, the little so-and-so having apparently decided to begin a career in reef carpet-bombing.
I pulled the gravel out, and put it all back together, but now the dry side is still loud and whooshy. The propellers spin when its on. I did partially open the dry side - didn't see anything obviously wrong, but I didn't remove the back cap (where I'm guessing there's a screw holding the motor assembly in) or really try to remove the motor itself.
Anyone have any relevant experience with these things? Either the original Vortec or these Jecod clones? Any idea what's up here, what the problem might be, and what - if anything - can be done to fix it?
Warning, turn your sound down a bit, especially if you're on headphones:
