ok here is why i ask this question. I have added snails as part of my cleanup crew, but never really small ones. At about 9:30 pm just before my halides go off they come out of nowhere and start cleaning the front glass. they dont seem to be bothering fish or corals. My wife counted then and right now there 67 of them on the glass cleaning away. There all different sizes with their little shells. Please let me know if I should get these out as its easier at night just before the lights go out.

congratulations its a snail...yes snails have babies.

I know there is a certain type I've heard of that can be bad but from the sounds of it you got a nice breading clean up crew enjoy there work.

A pic would help identify them.

I will work on the picture tonight since there all out working like crazy on the front of the tank.

Cant seem to get a clear enough picture.

Edit:

Wow thanks, no they dont look anything like those and my zoas are all great. These guys have been around for a few months and they just seem to be more and more, there some small ones and some larger ones. Right now we count around 67 of them of all sizes.

I've never seen nassarius snails that clean much glass. I may be wrong but i think the snails that most people get in really high numbers are collonista(sp?) snails. Just my $.02. Either way its a good thing.

My nassarius do hang out on the glass a surprising amount of time, and I definitely had a baby nassarius show up as well. I only had like 4 nassarius at the time, so it was easy to tell when there was a new one. Now that I've added at least 10 more (and lost count), I'd never know unless they just started taking over :)

I Agree colonistas pop up un large colonoies, but from the pic and description (larger shells slower moving) sound like nasarius. IMO

No.. Keep them if you start getting to many and your display stats looking ugly because of excess snails.. Collect them and sell em to me :)

No problem, I have no problem doing that.

yeah, thats exactly what they are. i've got a couple hundred of them. they're buried in the sand most of the day, come out to feed on leftovers and all over the glass at night. i'm pretty sure they're laying eggs on my glass, but i scrape them off the sides. we'll see what happens to the ones on the back.

also, does anyone know much about these? do they eat coraline algae off the rocks/glass? it doesn't really seem like i'm growing much of it in the display, but it takes off in my refugium
