My female clown is a total female dog. I had an ich outbreak during the hot summer, I turned my AC off for two days trying to alleviate the pain of a crazy high power bill. I was hoping I could live without using the AC like my neighbors. Well it was a very dumb idea. Sometime during this my anemone split and my female clown went psycho. She nips at the male as if he were already dead. So I have him in the DT in a small box. I have an empty 20 gal qt not running. My question is if I use say 15 gal water from my DT, a medium size rock( which i will bag under water)will it speed up the cycle? I know it is a potentially stupid :doh::doh:idea so I want y'alls input.

For cycling purposes, I would think partial water from your DT and a medium sized rock (a couple of them) would help, provided your DT is ich or disease free. If that is not that case, you may want to setup a new 20g QT. Whatever you decide, you may want to monitor the parameters carefully, watching for ammonia or nitrate, phosphate spikes. Hopefully, that will give your female clown some time to chill...hope it works out.

You'd probably be better off running the 20g inline with the main system. Even if you don't have a sump, you could use an overflow and a pump.

What sort of clowns do you have? When I added a maroon it too me 2 months to be able to have the new juvenile and the female in the same tank without attacks. I got one of those floating breeder boxes until it was okay.

Using water out of the display tank will ensure the parameters are the same but will do little for the cycle. Very little of the be official bacteria is suspended in the water column. A rock or two from the display would do much better as that is full of the needs bacteria. While it may be late for this occur acne I would recomend you keep a bag or two of matrix in the sump at all times. It will be loaded with bacteria and can easily be moved into a QT tank. Then I'd you have to medicate you can toss the matrix when you are done and not waste a good rock. If you don't medicate you can move it back to the sump when you are done with the QT.

I had a pair of Clarkii and that's what I was using.Unfortunately, my daughter was sick Monday and her pediatrician referred her to another doctor the same day.
I think the female must have jumped in the box or something but she killed him. He was not defending himself as of late but he was eating fine:sad:

Edit: Thank you all for answering my questions.
