I have a piece of dry rock that, while extremely porous, also seems to crumble somewhat easily. Any reason to be concerned?

Thanks!

Sounds like coral skeleton to me, but should still be good to put in your tank.

It's not like it crumbles to the touch. I was surprised though when I went to break it up into more manageable peices just how "soft" it was as opposed to being brittle.

It really is very difficult to describe. There are pieces that I've been able to break off by hand and when a pice does break off it tends to leave behind a powdery residue.

Best pic I can give you until I get home. It's the lower left rock with tons of holes in it. Aesthaetically it's a great piece and I'm assuming it will do well for bacteria growth.

Looks like it might be BRS Pukani rock. It comes in shapes similar to that. Pukani rock is a little fragile and is easy to break and shape, but it's very nice rock. I have 35lbs of it in my tank now.

I didn't think that there was anything wrong with it but being brand new to the hobby I wanted to be sure. It's just different from all of the others.

Thanks for the responses.

Your rock in the lower left looks identical to all of my Marcorock.

No problems here after a year in the tank.

I have had some pieces in the past that have done this to me. It made it easy to break frags off :)
