Dursostand for overflow?

Does anyone use these to get rid of the overflow gurgling?! I looked it up, made one from PVC and it works like a charm. I don't have an overflow box, just the return at the top. Tank is brand new and still cycling so nothing to go into it at the moment.

I will either make a box for it or get a strainer on the open end of the PVC. I have to admit it works like a champ! Any suggestions?

It should get quiter later as the slim and algae grow on it. it won't be much quiter but thats the only thing I can think of. I use insulation on most of my pipes to stop noise and it keeps heat in.
