Emperor UV users.

It totally depends on the size of your tank, size of the UV and what you're trying to do with it.

I have 150gph going through my 40w and my system is 150g and I want to kill ich.

I realize that. Should have worded my query differently, as I assumed those with EA UVs would be familiar with the suggested flow charts. Wanted to know what people were targeting. Algae, bacteria, Protozoa etc.

Edit: Saying that, listing your UV type would help. :)

What are you doing to ensure desired flow? These things would be the bomb if they had built in flow gauges. I've installed a saddle style flow gauge on my system.

I assume that since you are targeting ich, the flow rate is so low, hence the UV exposure so high, that you are killing everything else along the way???

I'd be interested to hear about your experience after 6 weeks and again after 6 months...

Was your initial purchase in response to an ich outbreak or preventative??? If the former, then has it helped???

I have an 80w HO. I have 200g TWV. I run 300-400gph through it. It was in response to an ich/velvet outbreak that wiped out the tank. That was 18 months ago. I only run when the lights are off. Have had no problems with ich since and water is crystal clear due to no algae blooms in the water column. Pod population is thriving. Fish are thriving. Corals are thriving. Due to over sizing the unit I have not had to change the bulb yet even though I bought a replacement 6 months ago.
That should sum it up.

I have the Emperor 150 watt HO UV. I run about 500 gallons an hour through it.

@kirkwood

There is a way to plumb these that you don't run your total return volume through it. So you are not killing the beneficial organisms in your system. I bought mine as a preventative measure, and since I am still in the build phase was a good way of incorporating it into my system.

Anything that goes through the uv will be killed. Yes.

My return goes into a filter sock and the feed pump for my uv is in that same chamber. It's not catching everything in the tank for sure. Yeah I may lose a few pods but the majority are in the rock work, substrate and chaeto so I'm not too concerned. I have had ich in the tank from time to time and want to keep tangs so there's no real way around keeping the ich under control without it.
