Hi imo there's no "formula" for growing corals. Your NO3 has to do with you coral uptake / lighting intensity / alk, and probably more variables than that. Successful sps keepers manage to find that balance for their system..
to get JUST those points right it depends on a lot.
I posted an article from Coral mag some months ago that explained those relations. It can be overwhelming if you try and manipulate everything..... sooooooo the deal is to keep your stuff STABLE , then find what thrives in that environment imo. I've found a few sps for my tank, but still on the hunt for more
