Wish I had this idea for myself 14 years ago

I went to evans too. I go running at the track every morning I get off from the fire house.

Hmm cool. I play football on the team and I am too up there in the morning on weekdays lol

Welcome, definitely be careful about live rock. I did a lot of digging to remove a Mantis Shrimp from both of my sw tanks. To add insult to injury, I paid $12 per pound for the rock. Some of the other pests can be handled easier with clean up crew.

Yeah I have heard evil things about mantis shrimp lol. I am buying all dry, and using a seeded piece from a member that lives near me.

Sounds like a good plan. When I got started I did not know about arc so I used another forum. Anytime I asked for advice it started a fight.

Edit: on the other side ,if you found a mantis shrimp you could always sell it. Alot eople love those little guys!

I love them too! If I had a empty acrylic tank I would have a mantis shrimp tank lol.

So what about this powerhead? If I get two? It is for a 10g nano reef.

One may be plenty 150gph is 15x your water volume but two of them if turned down might give a little better flow around the rocks.

Have you given any thoughts to using a hob bioweel filter or something similar as a little fuge ?
I did that on my nano way back and it worked nicely , I just ran a clump of chaeto and it kept nitrates down , that also would give some flow and plenty of surface agitation for o2 mix and then you'd probably only need one pump.
Remember , the more pumps and heaters etc in the tank it stands out and takes away from the reef your growing , so less is more

Okay, I have a topfin 10 hob would that work? So one pump and that filter? It has carbon on it right now.

Oughta be fine. Should make for a great solftie tank. I got some zoanthids I can frag for you. Pm me when your ready.

Thanks! As I said I am a noob, so if I may ask what is the differences between hard corals and soft corals? Is it just texture?

Examples of hard corals, SPS -small polyp stoney coral would be acropora, montipora, etc.
LPS - Large polyp stoney coral would be frogspawn, hammer coral, candy cane, "brain" coral, etc.

Examples of soft corals would be zoanthids, palythoas, leathers, mushrooms, etc. They typically do not require elaborate filtration systems.

A quality source for examples with pictures - http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=597">http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=597</a>

There are many, many types in different shapes, colors, growth rates, ect.
