I was looking at some cooling supplies for my PC and ran across this combo for fans:

Power Supply: http://www.coolerguys.com/840556029977.html">http://www.coolerguys.com/840556029977.html</a>
Fan Controller (up to 4 fans): [IMG]http://www.coolerguys.com/rheobus.html">http://www.coolerguys.com/rheobus.html</a>
Fans: [IMG]http://www.coolerguys.com/840556017004.html">http://www.coolerguys.com/840556017004.html</a>

The great thing about this kit is it requires virtually no monkeying with power supplies. Plug into the fan controller and then plug the fans in. I haven't tried it yet, but I have ordered the power supply and I have everything else on hand.

Same principle for cheap moonlights:

Lights: [IMG]http://www.coolerguys.com/840556051619.html">http://www.coolerguys.com/840556051619.html</a>

Again I haven't tried it, but I went ahead and picked a couple of these up just to see what they look like.

Keep us posted on how you, like them! I need to replace a moonlight on my Coralife Fixture that I bought from Tony!

Well, the Moonlight worked when I got it from Tony I just Kind of dropped it in the water.....

Here is another great source for fans:

I have 2 fans on my enclosed reef stand that do an excellent job of pulling warm air out.

Do you know which fans he is using? If noise is an issue it is hard to go wrong with the Vantec or the Nexus. They are both some of the quietest fans on the market and well worth the 5 bucks more a fan.

I have a lot of lighting to try out over the next couple weeks. Hopefully one of these setups are slick.

I like going over to Camerons house and finding out all of the things he has found to build super cheap!

CHEAP IS A WORD WE DON'T HEAR OFTEN IN THIS HOBBY. I embrace that word every time I hear it. I have been wanting to get my LED Moonlights back up and running, but have run into some basic problems. I now ordered the above mentioned kits and will see how they work when I receive them shortly.

I just wish I knew more about actual fish and such. I think I am migrating down the DIY road avoiding the inevitable massive amount of livestock studying I have put off.

As for the LED lights above, I think you can buy one power supply and get a 99 cent molex branching adapter from any good PC store and run two lights. That would be about 25 bucks for two sets of LEDs. Better than $50 bucks for one LED that some companies are charging. You may even be able to run 3 or 4 off one driver just depends on how many amps those things pull.

Once my other little LED expiriment plays out, that could be even cheaper. 3 5watt LEDs and a driver for $30 bucks or so and it will be really bright. I can't wait for the drivers to get here so I can see 18 hooked up at once. It should be as bright as one bank of the Solaris unit. I am hoping to get 4x56w T5 output for $150 bucks which would be the cheapest lighting out there pound for pound.

Looking at the connector on the back of the LEDs, I don't think you need that $0.99 adapter (but not a big deal).

I think these guys are talking about LEDs to be used as Moonlights here...

Good point. I didn't even see the inline connector part.

Ha! Hijacked my own thread.

I posted my replies to the LED questions on the DIY LED thread found here:

My mind wanders... I move from topic to topic... it is not a good habit. I will try and do better.

OK I tested the power supplies and they are great and work fine with the fans and LEDs. The LEDs however aren't very good. They put out blue light and a good wide angle, but it just isn't powerful enough to punch down very far. I did buy two of these:

http://www.coolerguys.com/840556051763.html">http://www.coolerguys.com/840556051763.html</a>

and they work pretty well actually. I have a 6' tank and to light it to my liking it would take 3 or 4, but it looks good with just two. Problem is you have to wire them since they design isn't meant to be an always on. The wiring is really easy and any 12v power source seems to work.

The search for easy LED lighting continues.

I think they work rather nice . I have 2 sets on my 90 and they penetrate well and give some nice dim light for night. If you want to sell any of you LEDs that you bought from them, let me know.

I guess it depends on how much light you want in the tank at night. They are nice to look at and a lot of my corals do show interesting colors under them. I bought two and plan on keeping them. I was thinking of throwing them under the cabinet for a "night light".

OK... new cool light to try:

Cheap, good angle, powerful and they can be daisy chained. Very nice.
