So I am a newbee to acans. I on my 3rd reef tank and thought I would give them a try.

How do most people feed them? With a turkey baster or something smaller. Do you just put the food right on the mouth? If feeding pellet do you soak it first?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer,

Just my .02 , when i could keep acans ( stupid idol eats them now), i would just put cyclopleeze (sp) into the water column when i was feeding everything else and they grew pretty quickly that way

This is what I do, for all my LPS. First I dose with a product like Seachem Fuel (amino acids, trace elements, etc.) this gets everything ready to eat and starts getting the corals mouths opens and then I turn off all the pumps for about 5 minutes and let the water settle, while waiting I thaw out a mix of cyclopese and mysis. Then, all you need is to go with the turkey baster and let them feed. if fish are eating the food from them you can cover them with the back end of a coke bottle or specimin container. This is just what I do, def not the only way to do it.

I don't target feed mine. They get the light they need and if they're lucky enough to catch some scraps from my trigger, then good on them.

Why introduce excess nutrients if you don't have to?

I usually feed mine once a week with either mysis or Rod's food through a coral feeder (expensive turkey baster). I find they are happier and grow a lot faster when fed meaty food regularly. I see Weaglereef's point though about excess nutrients.

I have two, I feed one acan every other week and don't feed another one next to it. I have 12 new heads in less than two months on the one I feed and about 5-6 on the one I don't feed. Additionally the fed one is BRIGHT colored and constantly one size, not the same for the other. The unfed acan changes size and color every 3-4 hours. JME..
