I've noticed my new Scissortail Dartfish spend all day up in the water column, and at night when the day lights go off, they seek refuge under the rocks in the sand. I tried to look up some profile information about them, but there really wasn't a lot found. Then it occurred to me...

On another forum I'm part of, we started a thread were members were encouraged to make a listing of the fish they are keeping. The purpose of the thread is to provide other members a person to go to to ask for first-hand experiences with a particular fish. I searched and didn't really find something like this here, other than the "Member Tanks" forum, but there's so much other information in those threads the tank occupants get lost in it.

As a new saltwater hobbyist, it would be of interest to me to know who's keeping what, so I could inquire with them directly. Likewise, I keep a lot of freshwater and I know there are a few others here keeping freshwater too. It could be beneficial for a member here, who might be moving to the freshwater scene to have someone to got to for FW information.

The way it works on the other site is, each member posts their listing and then updates it as things change. The lists could include fish, inverts, corals, and even plants, if we wanted. I've noticed here, after a certain period of time, you can no longer edit your posts, so that might become a bit of an issue if we have to create a whole new post each time something changes.

Would this be something of interest here?

Ha

I'm game.

Here's my list:

Yellow Tang - About 4 inches long and OWNS my tank. Wasnt the first tang added either.

Hippo/Regal Tang - About 4-5 inches and is a solid second in command. I've had this guy for ~3 years at this point and he is a PIG. So far... this guy is bulletproof (knocks on wood). He's survived two tank moves, a 5 month stint in the basement sump and a tank transfer.

Yellow Eye Kole Tang - ~3 inches and nothing really to report. Tends to annoy the yellow and regal from time to time as I'll see him with a small battle wound, then nothing for a long while.

Achilles Tang - ~4-5 inches. Got this guy from SEA about two months ago and have been very happy. The first few days were a little iffy as the Yellow was NOT happy to have a new tank member. A little showing off here and there and most seems settled. Eats EVERYTHING I throw in the tank (which is why I got him from SEA). Getting fatter by the day.

4 Dispar Anthia - Originally bought 6 from Rit at Atlanta Aquarium a year ago as they were going crazy for pellets. 6 lasted for about 3 months before one died in what appeared to be a fight to determine the male. The second subtraction happened when I added the Bartlett trio and the male Bartlett killed off the male Dispar. Speaking with Jeremy at SEA this is pretty common as these two species are known to shoal together in the wild. They hang out together in my tank as well.

3 Bartlett Anthia - Got these guys from SEA about 7 months ago. Originally got 4, but one died in the battle for supremacy.

2 Blackice Semi-Snowflake Clowns - Nothing really to report here. I've had em for a year and they're just like any other clownfish I've ever owned. Took to my RBTA and have been paired since day one.

Melanaurus Wrasse - Pretty hardy guy that doesnt bother anyone in the tank except for new snails.

Midas Blenny - Great look addition that adds color and personality. I've had him for over a year and he seems to get along with most everyone.

Tailspot Blenny - Cool little guy that isnt afraid of anyone. The Kole tang used to chase him around a little at the start, but its been cool with everyone for a while.

Barnacle Blenny - One of the cooler additions. This little guy picked a hole in a rock along the front of my tank. Just sits there all day waiting and watching. When food floats by he bolts out and grabs it then returns to his home. I like additions like this... you dont see em till you're paying close attention to the tank.

Mandarin Dragonet - One of my all time favorites. Was scared to add him seeing as I had a big wrasse already, but he's been great. Eats Nutramar Ova ravenously.

how does your Copper do with corals?? any issues?

(120) 2x False Percs, 1x Clark, 6x Chromis, 1x Bristletooth tang, 1x Scopas tang, 2x mandarin spotted dragonets, 1x lawnmower blenny

(28) 2x Maroon clowns

Notes: Maroons took two months to get along. Larger one had tank for almost a year before 3/4 inch baby was added. Had to keep the little one in a breeder box for a long time and it was still not great when they got together at first.
Clark was added to the 120 when my 10g failed and was smaller than the pair of false percs. In the fighting she ended up with pop eye which eventually healed and she now has her own corner of the tank with little fighting.
The little dragonet gets chased by the big one (both female) but for the most part the tank is plenty big enough to avoid conflict. The tangs chase the blenny sometimes, but he is a cave dwelling champ. The chromis do well with 6 and I see little fighting between them. At one point my population dropped down to 3 and they started acting more individualistic than with 6. They are great dither fish!
The blenny will move coral frags if I put them near the openings to his favorite cave, he doesn't seem to realize they need light as he will drop them in hard to find cracks.

It nips various brain corals, so I just do not house those types in that aquarium.

No Tropheus duboisi in the 125 ?

I actually had a small colony (eight) in the 55-gal /w the multis. Unfortunately, they all perished within a week's time about a month ago. Based on how quick it was, the only thing it could have been was bloat. Lesson learned...Tropheus need to be kept in species-only tanks and fed with a low protein diet.

In my 210 reef tank....blonde naso, yellow tang, kole tang, Christmas wrasse, yellow coris, radiant wrasse, orange flank wrasse, pair onyx clowns, red scooter blenny, dragon goby, trio of Anthias and a flame angel...lots of corals and two beautiful rose bubble tips. All get along well...they are fed well!

Well...........after my Male Macropharyngodon meleagris & Younger female MM Leopard kicked my Potters Wrasse to death, and made me sell my beloved Alpha Female MM Wrasse to Dylan, My Male MM Wrasse tore up the younger female (which it seemed to be paired to) until it died...........EVEN if you have them well fed, and all tank conditions met, introducing a MALE just changed the dynamics so much for these fish.....I will introduce a female in the future.....I'll wait..............

Sorry for the hijack brother but I gotta ask Dawg about his clowns.
I've always been under the impression you couldn't keep more than a pair in a tank. I thought they would fight untill the dominant emerge and the weakest die.

I would love to have more clowns.

Whats your take?
