First impression of the Maxspect Gyre

Jason, your absolutely right! I'm sure there will be some sort of problems with generation 1 as with most products made these days.

I hope not! I know there's excitement about new products though and I'd hate someone to sell off truly good equipment like Vortech or Tunze without thinking it through. I'm excited about these too though. Been a while since we've had revolution instead of evolution.

Agreed. Advancements like this even if it turns out that it has a flaw or two will also push the former/current leaders to continue to do more with their product lines. Good for the hobby in general. I hope this is a gamebreaker.

As I read the other link to another website within this thread; I could only think that these pumps weren't coming from Germany, USA, etc. Time will be the judge of where this product falls into the realm of pumps. Following along as well as following along in regards to the Jebo pumps to see where those pumps will be also categorized.

After owning Jaebo WP25s, WP10s, and RW8s the build quality is much superior to the other pumps I have experienced. It's a heavy unit in comparison to the Jaebo power heads.

Found this video posted on RC. I think I'll have to get one now :D Might wait a few months to see if everything is still working well and if problems seem to be resolved

I'll need to wait until the smaller version is released. But I think it could make a great companion for the MP40. I tried the jebao's and while they're a great value they don't really compare performance wise to a vortech IMO. It's going to take something special to get me to move away from the MP series and I need to see a long term track record. This look extremely intriguing though. Hopefully these things prove to be legit. Ecotech is due for some serious competition which helps us all out.

Thanks for the videos Sean.

I've had them up for 3 days now and I am seeing much longer polyp extension in some of my torch corals than I had in the past. I still need to play around with different configurations and pulse timing to get the flow patterns Im after.

I thought I might share some incredible wave photos I snapped with two different pump speeds. I can't turn it up higher than 70% for fear of blowing everyone away and spilling water out of the tank.

I have read in the forums that there is an advanced controller that it's been released in Europe. It supposedly will mimic Vortex modes and more. I wish I could find more information about it.

Still this is an incredible pump so far. It does have a slight hum as you increase speed and power. However, they said it takes time to break in and the hum will subside.

Current setup is Pulse Mode at 30% with a two second pulse.

This is set at 30% with the waves reaching the end of my tank.

The pump is set at about 70% on pulse mode with waves splashing the end of my tank.

My gyre is coming tomorrow :). I was actually running 2 tunzes pumps and 2 rW's and over the last few days set them up to create a gyre in each direction. I've been running a counterclockwise flow for three minutes and then clockwise flow for three minutes but I'm sure the design of the blades doesn't compare to what the actual gyre can do when it comes to water turnover. The gyre is perfect for my tank because my aqua scape really limits where I can aim pumps without blasting corals to death. I'll post an update here 2 when I get it set up

Rusty, I'll be following as there is way too many configuration options to mess with them all. I had pretty much the same issues. I want to create an undertow to keep the flow moving over the top sandbed. I may try lowering the return cover on the back side of the tank to create a stronger undertow and longer wave. I'm trying not to stress everyone out in the tank so I'm making minor adjustments.

Is anyone seeing any of the issues some buyers on R2R have had? Looks like some rough shipping may have gotten a few units.

That was posted on the first page ;)

People on RC are talking about how useless the reverse flow setting is.

That is probably something common with other pumps as well. I think the VorTech constant speed mode is pretty useless outside of night mode, for example. No way would I want to use that during the day, for example.
