Anybody use automated fish feeders? Please give suggestions on one that works. Thanks.

Eddie

I have had good results from the Eheim and also the one that Current makes. I've had the current running continuously on my sons tank for more than three years.

i am currently looking as well. everybody seems to reccomend the eheim.

here is my issue... from what i read, most of the problems with autofeeders come from the feeder feeding too much.

my question... is this from the feeders auto timer malfunctioning (ie... if i have an apex, will this double safe guard an equipment error like a heater?) or the user over feeding or an inferior product scooping too much? I would love to feel comfortable to setup an autofeeder for flakes/pellets bc i travel from time to time but cannot gain enough info to make me feel comfortable. until i do i will keep individually bagging my daily feedings for whoever is watching the tank with labels so i can punch them in the face if they are stoopid enough to mess that up! :)

I have the Eheim 3581 "air" feeder and use it with freeze-dried mysis. I used to use this for my noon feeding daily, but stopped and just use it on vacation because I like feeding frozen foods much more than dry foods.

It works great. The clock is marginally faster than my apex, so I set the clock exactly to the apex and set a 10 minute feed cycle on the apex. I have the auto-feeder kick in 2 minutes into the feed cycle so I know everything will be off.

Is there a way to use the apex to control the feeder?

Not that I am aware of. I've not done an extensive search of feeders, but I don't think I've seen one that is anything but battery powered. You might search over on the Neptune forum at Reef Central. I wouldn't be suprised if somebody over there hadn't come up with something.

i use the Eheim too and it works well. i was a little weary about it being battery powered but so far its work fine.
