One of the Banggai cardinals I bought two weeks ago has hardly eaten anything, and not that I've seen in well over a week (a few half-hearted nibbles in the first 48 hours). He (gender indeterminant, but I'll call it a 'he') hangs out around the tank with the other, seems ok otherwise, but certainly doesn't dash around at feeding time like the other (who's turned into a pig). Won't touch frozen mysis, frozen krill, or the new life spectrum food pellets. I've soaked it in garlic guard, overfeed the tank like crazy (algae loves it.....). Any suggestions?

try live brine. then you can always gut load it with selcon to make them nutritious.

if its anything like the one I had, its just lazy...lol. He never really darted around like the other fish, just kind of floated and whatever was near him he ate. Dont really know what to suggest. Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong, but i dont think these are generally a species known for not accepting prepared foods. How long have you had him(it)?

rod's food. little bit high priced but the fish go nuts over it. I use it as a treat.

+1 to live brine. What's the size on it? May want to try cyclopeeze as well

my dog just ate a whole can of that stuff. hes been pooing red for 3 days now.
personally, none of my fish liked the stuff, at least it didnt got to waste.

Mine all love it. All sizes of fish and corals too. By the can I guess you mean the dry stuff. That is what I have and you have to let it soak and rehydrate before using it so that it sinks and gets in the water column

i just mixed it up in a cup and poured it in.
all the fish looked at it like it was some
strange red snow lol.

Suprised it didn't all just go into the overflow.
My fish are crackheads over the stuff

Is it possible that he is brooding eggs?

The male banggai carries the eggs in his mouth for +/- 28 days, and does not eat during that time.

Typically his jaw will appear a lot more square.

is it the really small one from cliff? If so Id try the cyclopeeze. Ive got some you are more than welcome to have if you would like to try it.

try soaking food in garlic guard.... I just picked up some today and gave my fish a little nori sheet soaked in it and the TORE IT UP!

Thank you for the suggestions, everyone!

I had hatched a load of brine shrimp that I was going to try, but I seem to have killed them all (whole different thread could be started...). Too young to brood, I believe, and yes, this is one of the small ones Cliff had, so I have the pellets he was feeding him (soaked in garlic guard, too!). I'll try the brine first (easiest access), and then I may hit cbrjenkins up to try the cyclopseeeze (Thanks!).

Ahhhh ooooookay...I think I just witnessed an ambush of an amphipod by this fish....developed a taste for the live?...
Definitely buying live brines tomorrow!
