Anyone know how I could set up a webcam on my tank while and monitor it while I am at work through my android phone/tablet?

I know Neptune has the online features where you can control it over the network but not sure if it has a way to set up video.

My work schedule is less than ideal sometimes for this hobby but lets face it bills got to be paid and I love this hobby.

I'm thinking a wireless cam that could hop on my network would be even better so I don't have to setup another computer at the tank

Maybe somethign like this:

Not the cheapest, and looks like a gateway drug to some premium subscription services... but for an all-in-one solution You may be able to get it up and running for $175-225.

You might be better off cobbling this together on your own, depending on what parts you already have on hand.

Neptune controllers support webcams. The "Unofficial New Users Guide" guides you through the setup. I plan to do this as soon as I'm bored enough.

This camera worked out great for me, It has it's own IP address and can be linked through your home network. I had a friend help me set up it's own domain so i could log in and view from anywhere.

You can find cameras with DVRs on line pretty cheap. Many have a way to tie them into your home network and assign an IP address. Once you have that IP address you can access the DVR through a web browser from anywhere and view the content.

If you're using firefox, or google, use the server-push mode (I think you can use this in IE as well to avoid the Active-X installation.

Then click live video.

Foscam FI8918W like $80 on amazon. Wireless & dead easy to setup.

And yes, you can view it via apps on your iphone or roid.

What needs to be controlled via the neptune controller?

Nothing "needs" to be controlled but I would love to be able to control lights,pumps..etc. lets say I'm at work and I happen to look and notice my power head has fallen into the sand and kicking up a whirlwind of sand I can go ok turn off powerhead.

No, I get the use of a controller. I have an Apex and love it. I was curious about the "Apex now works with cameras" piece. That didn't make sense.

But anyhow, bang for the buck, these Foscam cameras are decent. I know probably 20 people who have at least one, and some up to 8.

Oh ok gotcha Jay I will look are those sounds like what I'm looking thanks for the link

Do the Foscam cameras come with remote zoom feature. Pan/tilt would also be a plus but the zoom would be ideal for me since I'll have to place the camera about 50 feet away.

Thanks....

PTZ cam's aren't cheap, but the one Oz linked to is wireless, which is schweet!

Nothing, but you can connect a webcam and use the controller's internet connection.

I have a Toshiba IK-wb15a that I got from eBay for about $100 that has decent PTZ capabilities. I also have a trendnet PTZ but it's zoom is a joke (digital) but is a decent camera overall.

Honestly my tank is small enough that I don't really need the pan tilt features. However If I can manual zoom it until I got it how I want it that would be really all I need.
