Looks like a baby serpeant star.

Anyone know what the odds are of it surviving long term are?

Odds are very good. I have them al lover my tanks.
 
Very good. They're found (not often seen) in most reef tanks.
 
cool! Well it will have to stay in my sump area, otherwise my puffer, wrasse, or tang will make a quick meal of it....lol
 
After you get a good population move some to the display at night. You'll be suprised at how well these guys can hide with the lights on. Your return may do this for you. Check in a few months with a red light
 
I have over a 100 of them in my nano. They are great little scavengers
