I recently started flow in my fuge (20g Tall). I ordered a light from Dr. Fosters & Smith. Its a 6100K and 15W. It fits the Marineland hood. Do you think this will be good enough for the cheato and LR I will place in there?

Also, since the hood covers the tank, do you think this will hurt the gas exchange rate of the fuge?

No... 15 W is most likely not going to be enough for good cheato growth... If you want a $15 solution, do a search on the boards for fuge lights and there is a link to a study of a flood light that you can order. It is 19W but puts out the light of a 85W bulb at 5100K. The 5100K is much better for Macro growth. Add that to a $10 clip on shop lamp from home depot and you are gold!

I got the 18 Watt 6500K PC fixture for my 6 gallon refugium, and I feel that it's just right. Chances are 15 Watts over a 20H will keep the cheato alive and growing, but slowly. I would get the bulb that Brandon's recommending- his cheato grows like crazy.

I think it would work but it would only work for the Cheato on top and all the Cheato on the bottom would die. Like Brandon said go for the cheap Flood light.

I better get a Rep point for this! ;)

GE has a "day light" white spiral bulb that's using 15 watts to put out something like 75 watts, with a 6500K rating, you can get 3 in a pack for like $6 at Walmart. In the next isle you can find a clip on socket with a metal reflector for $8. There is your powerful fuge light for under $10. And you can clip the light anywhere you want to, even light the fuge from the back if it's an HOB one like mine.

There is a 100 watt "equivalent" of this bulb as well. 2 for about $6-$7. I'm using them with a pair of those clamp shop light reflectors and my cheato and caulerpa are boldly out of control.

I also use the same bulb for phyto culturing.

Check out this link to see a bulb that works really well.

As the guys said earlier, just put this in a clip on lamp from homedepot and you are all set.
