I have a 12g standalone fuge with a slotted PVC return (redneck skimmed overflow) back to my sump return side. It's fed by about 50gph from my return manifold and a K-nano for a little circulation. 6700k PC lighting reverse from my display so it runs about 14 hours a day. Running barebottom with a big ball of chaeto. After 1.5 months of being up.....it's gotten pretty nasty with film algae and little tufts on the acrylic. DO you guys/gals ever clean your fuge. SHould I add a small algae eating CUC (turbos, astreas, ceriths, etc.).

Nope, dont clean mine. I'd be weary of putting a CUC in there. THey could eat pods and what not. Mite take a razor blade or other glass scraper and clean the glass. That is all I do.

That was my main question. I have a Magfloat in the fuge but haven't been using it.

haha does no good if you dont use it. I dont have one in the fuge, I just scrape it off when I do a water change if need be. Havent really needed to lately though.

Yep....just for looks:D I was actually just letting it do it's thing and the pods loved the algae on the glass so I let it go. Actually never even cleaned any diatoms from the fuge after I got the system going and I think most of what's there stemmed from the diatoms.

I'm adding a ball valve to the plumbing in my sump with a T going to waste water.. That way I can open the valve and drain the sump to clean the glass with ease..close it off and pump the same amount of water back in to fill it up.. Water change!

haha, lazy, I should of done something like that to make my water changes easier. but that will come with a way larger system :D

heck I just started getting cyano, after almost a year of having the tank running I get cyano, some luck. lol

I have a pump in my sump that is devoted to water changes, filp a switch and it's done. However, my fuge is completely seperate and outside the stand.

Here's a pic. Actually looks much nastier than the picture shows. Excuse my little chaeto ball...I just harvested:D The reddish stuff in the picture is not cyano, it's a film algae of some sort.
