Nothing like getting woken up by the spouse ranting about the flooded fish room at 5:30 am. Just finished wet dry vacumming the carpet, mopping the floor and replacing the salt that was washed away with my auto top off. OH!! and I', late for work. A great start to my day. :mad2::shout::bash2: Man, do I feel like giving it up right about now.

Apparently, that change that I made to the sump to help eliminate the micro bubbles was slightly pushing down on the top off causing it to overflow.

Edit: Thanks Ralph. I didn't know such a thing exists.

Some top-off have a second switch to prevent this, did yours (and perhaps it failed)?

Just get rid of the carpet and tile the fish room, will make it a lot easier in the long run...

Exactly why I buit in a high water safty cut off in my DIY ATO. No matter the float or sensor, it will fail at sometime or another.

It was my fault because I was experimenting with adding egg crate atop of the float and it somehow fell on it just enough to activate the top off causing it to runneth over. My luck, as usual.

at least you knew what the problem was right away and it was an easy fix. A lot better then a broken seal on the tank

Trust me, if it was a broken seal, I'd definitely be out! I don't think I could handle that one.
