This may be a stupid question but I'm gonna ask anyway. I have just set up my 120 and it has been running about 2 weeks now. I have 2 x 250 metal halides running. I am getting about 2.5 gallons of evap a day. I have been told that placing a glass cover over the tank would eliminate most evap. However, would that glass cover also raise my temp too much? I am very happy with my temp. I have it regulated at between 79.5 - 80.5. Just wondering about the cover. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

Yes, I a glass cover is going to raise your temp very much. Evap is a very good thing. Not only that there are a few other major downsides to a glass top. 1) Loss of evap cooling like stated. 2) Less light to the tank from the halides due to having to pass through glass, water on the glass and salt creep. 3) Decreased oxygen exchange in the tank leading to unhealthy fish and drops in PH.

All around, a pretty bad idea for a reef tank.

Thanks. That is what I was thinking but I just wanted to make sure before I tried anything.
