I have a black and white clownfish about 1/2 to 3/4 inch in size.

I have him in a 6qt container with heat and air stone trickling for hospital tank.

I have a few idea's of what I could do that might help but I wanted to try to figure out the proper diagnosis before I did something that would cause more harm than good. I wil try to get a pic of him in a few minutes.

The best that I can describe is he is swollen looking around middle body area. He really just looks fat. however its to the point that it makes his head look deformed from the unatural roundness of his body that gives his head a shrunken appearance. Like his skin is streached un naturally

He has white spots which I thought to be ich, or brook but im not sure because there are a few spots that either are cyst's or blisters of some sorts.

Like when a person gets a burn on them and you see that real thin outer layer filled with fluid. They are more noticeable today than last night.

I am not sure if he is savable at this point but ima do my best to try could use some input or thoughts on what this may be

it has not affected his ability to swim is still very active, however I have noticed constant nonstop mouth movement.

sorry for the horrible photo. Hope this helps

Imo i would start treatment for brook asap. It will kill very quickly if that is what it has. I just lost my GSM clowns in 48 hrs to brook. Timeline to treat is short. If someone can positively diagnose the disease it would insure proper treatment.

Quinine sulfate available from National Fish Pharmaceuticals online is the best medication, IMO.

There are others containing copper or formalin that may work, but are not my first choice.

There is another thread under Reef Discussion with a link to the above company, and instructions.

Best of luck. Brooklynella is a horrible disease to watch a fish go through.

If he makes it till tonight you'll be lucky. He looks bad. Get stuff for brook asap

Brook, velvet, ich must always be a possibility. The belly may indicate something internal. I medicate the QT according to the instructions on the meds and do a FW dip while I'm changing the QT water daily. Good luck

Jeremy at SEA Atlanta has some quinine. You might want to call him (ASAP).

i did a hyposalinity treatment for my clowns when they both got a very bad case of ich and it worked wonderfully but you have to drop the salinity very slowly and you should put something in with him that he can hide in to reduce his stress level. you might what to do a FW dip with him first and then do a slow drop in salinity also are you giving him any medication.

I don't have any medications to treat brook, I do have ich medication. Is there any home remedies I can try.

I am about to do a 30 min freshwashter bath in a second. Then bring the salinity down to 1.008 gradualy.

i hope you are joking on the 30 min dip if not then you now have a dead fish ..a dip to my knowledge should be 3 to 4 min or 2 if they show sighns of stress you also want to make sure the temp of the water dip is the same as the the fishes normal water as well as ph and i used an air stone . I also feel that dropping the salinity to 1.008 seems a little on the low side but you might what to ask you local store but i would not go any lower then 1.013. remember the lower you go the more stress to the fish.

I have came across several threads where people have done a fresh water bath in 5 min incriments checking the fish every 5 minutes for signs of distress and as long as the fish does not appear stressed then they continue another 5 minutes and so on and so on, even found a long read on how someone treats there fish to a fresh water bath for up to an hour.

A bit extremem in my opinion but I am going to start out with 5 minutes and see where that goes.

Also the fresh water can be up to 2 degress above but not below from my understanding and the fish will not be shocked by the temperature change.

The fish go right to the bottom in a FW bath. Clowns can tolerate it longer than most. Just watch your fish. I've never gone as long as 30 mins. You should be able to see the "spots" coming off the fish in a few minutes.
Changes in salinity going down seem to be less stressful than up, but I wouldn't adjust more than .004 per day.

I decided against the freshwater dip and decided to go another route after further discussion.

Good news is he was still alive when I left the house this morning. Previously what thought to be brook is believed to be ich.

I started using ich-x method of medicine delivery has been 20% water change and slow reduction of salinity dripped back into tank.

He still isn't eating I have tried both pellet and frozen brine soaked in Garlic Gaurd

If anything changes I will post later

Try a little frozen cyclopeeze or rod's food. When I've had sick clowns, those are the first things they start eating again - especially small clowns.

OK I will give that a try my only fear at this point is something may be causing him to be compacted and that's causing him to have no appetite

Well I'm not sure if the clown "was" getting better. I got home last night and condition looked about the same. Tried to feed him no luck. Medicated him after 20% water change covered him back up

Went to bed woke up this morning to find a re arranged counter top and a missing fish.

I thought the cat looked a little more content this morning "stupid cat"
