I saw something about cotton candy algae. I browsed the article and didn't give it an in depth read but I think I remember it saying it isn't a "reef safe" algae so to speak because it will take over like hair algae. I have a patch in my 30 and like you I thought it was kinda cool so i've left it alone and it reallt hasn't spread any...now watch we wake up to a mess after saying that...lol.
