Green Acro browning!!! Help!

Just did a 15% water change, and have turned my lights down a bit. Tested for NO2, Ammonia, those are very low per my ELOS test kits. PH is about 8.3. Tank temps remain about 77 ish always. LEDs dont add any heat to the tank. Filter socks are being cleaned right now, but I am concerned about my SPS.

How often do you feed the tank and quantity? I use to feed heavily and had brown corals often. Now not so much. I got pretty coral now.

Two pinches of ELOS pellets a day, and then a 1/2 cube of frozen mysis or Brine Shrimp every other day. I am planning on stopping feeding for a day or 2 to see if I am adding too many nutrients. Also cleaning my filter socks today. I ATO with RO/DI, and use salinity salt.

I have a 3.5 or 4 inch purple tang, 2 maturing clowns, a 2 inch wrasse, and a 2 inch DWG. The tang eats like a pig.

I feed my purple tang Instant Ocean herbivore pellets and every 2-3 days I add an entire sheet of algae folded in half many times. And yes, my purple tang would eat a big mac if I put it in there.

Try cutting back the food expecially the mysis shrimp for a couple of days and see if it helps. Brown = not dead so don't worry too much yet.

Other thing would be light. Sounds like your light is fine.

Hopefully experts can chime in and help.

I have actually dialed back my lights a bit...they were up to about 80% and I dialed them back to 55W, 65B, 65RB on my AI Sol Blues. My other SPS are showing some signs of bleaching on the tips.

I'm no genus and simply a mere amateur. But in my experience, not enough/bad light can cause browning. Too much light or too intense-too quickly can cause bleaching.

But in most cases I have read, the browning is normally from too many nutrients.

Wha do you have for water flow around that coral?

It is a 57 Gallon Rimless Illuminata, and I have a MP10ES on either side of the tank. The 'master' is about 12 inches away from the coral, and slightly off center so it should be getting plenty of indirect and direct flow. I have the vortechs cranked up about half power, in Reef Crest mode I believe.

Skimmer gets cleaned out about once a week or so...stinky stinky.

it is unless there is a problem with removing nutrients. Your on the right track it seems. Just needs to be tweaked.

Come to think about it, I have gone a bit too long on this last water change...holidays sidetracked me...I also over fed a tad over the last week. I think you guys have helped me find the problem. Think not feeding for 48 hours is OK?

Definately stay steady with the water changes. Keep free floating food to minimum and keep socks clean, replaced every couple days if needed. Color should be back in no time.

Water changes will not take care of phodphates...

Sps will be doomed.
