Have you every used the Oceanic BioCube Skimmer?

Does anyone have the Oceanic BioCube Skimmer or have you ever used <span style="color: #000000;"><p style="text-align:left;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">it on a 24 gal Aqua Pod? Do you like it, does it pull out a lot of skim mate? I have just increased my bio-load in mine and I'm alittle concerened. Thanks for any help! Holley</span>

I've used one. I didn't find it to work very well. There is a web site that you can order nano skimmers, but I can't remember the address off the top of my head.

Has more of a use as a oxygenator and helping keep a stable PH, I run a fusion on my pod just forthos reason. I have never seen them pull good dark skim nor replace weekley waterchanges, which quite frankly is the best thing you can do for a smaller sized tank.

Setting up water changes where the replacement is easily done and matching SG PH AK and temp is the hardist part. If you are looking to reduce this to a monthly or bi monthly change look into the higher ends skimmers such as the CPRs tunze 9002 or some othe custom units that are out there. Im a dn of the CPR Fuge/ skimmer combo reviews look great.

All are options but in my opinion running GFO / carbon and a 2 gallon change a week along with responsible husbandry and feeding are the most viable and cost effective means to keeping your tank happy and healthy.

I'd suggest an airstone skimmer for one of those cubes... they've come a long way in recent months/year...

+1. I used to run one of those skimmers made for the biocubes on my 12g nano.

It was a PITA to tune in and I had to clean it every 2 or 3 days. It did a pretty good job though. I was able to run it either wet or dry and I got pretty good dark skimming out of it.

Although it won't replace weekly WC, I feel that some skimming is better then no skimming. For the price, it's not bad.

Thank all of you for your input! I am doing bi-weekly water changes of 4 gallons ea. I do overfeed! My 24 gal pod has been up since Sept, I still get a little red slime. Just trying to make it as good as I can. I moved my naked clowns and splended dottieback in Sunday, they have a tail spot blenny, aurora goby and candy pistol shrimp as tank mates. Holley


If I try one, I will let everyone know what I think of it!

red slime is probably a combination of overfeeding & lack of flow..

With that kind of bio-load, I really think you should up your WC to weekly. Get a little more flow in your tank and that should also help with the red slime as well.

It was drilled for an extra 900 Maxi Jet and I added a small powerhead that is 425gph (2225gph) also has an extra fan(I got it from Bud and he is great at fixing up tanks) I just need to stop overfeeding that tank!!!

Edit: I do 2 water changes a week! I may try 3 until the tank stablizes.

I use one in my 14 gal and it pulls very good skimmate. (very Dark) I still do a weekly water change of 1.5 gal. Mine looks great I clean the cup every week it has so much dark skimmate in it. I also clean the air stone every month. Everyone told me they do not work but mine does. You will have to adjust the air to make it work right.

When I had my biocube I used the CPR SR2 skimmer and it worked marginal at best. I bought this as the majority of those with the biocube skimmers said they were junk and this was the best route.. If I did it again I'd get an external skimmer of some sort.

What about a Tunze? Would it fit? like a 9002 or something

the tunas 9002 will fit perfectly in the back right chamber and from what I have read they are hands down the best choice for a aquapod if you have the coin. I also had a slight problem with cyno in my system due to my over feeding of my pigs.

Flow is what I used to solve it , added a FLO to the main outake and a mj900 in the other corner to be on at all times. I also use a koralia 750 evo on a timer setup it will turn on for 15 min twice a day once at 8am and once at noon. Really helps at keeping decaying matter from building up in areas and my diatoms / cyno issues cleared up in under a week.

I will check out the Tunze 9002, $ may be the problem. My cat was just operated on, he had a tumor on his right back leg (they had to take his leg), he is going to be fine now, they believe they got it all. Holley
