I am trying to decide on the last fish for my 90g and having a hard time choosing, so I need some help.

I currently have:
2x BW ORA Clowns
1x Male Lyretail
3x Femaie Lyretails
1x Mystery Wrasse
1x Wheeler Goby

The wife really wants a Hippo Tang, but they get big and with how prone to Ich they are it scares me even with a QT.

Any good suggestions? This tank is mostly SPS and Zoas/Palys so I need something that is not going to pick at them.

Thanks for the help.

How about one of the smaller tangs or maybe a reef-safe trigger (blue throat, sargasssum, etc.)?

in a 90 reef... you might be fully stocked.

I have had a hippo in a 90 and he did fine (still have him in fact) in my 90 for 2 years before I upgraded. Just get a smaller specimen if you go that route.

QT, but I wouldnt worry about the ich too too much beyond the QT process. I know your experience may vary, but anytime I've encountered ich (only in the last year), good, heavy feedings and everything worked out. Well... except for the copperband.

Thanks y'all and I think I could be happy staying where I am at with fish, but I like the idea of a "reef safe" trigger.

+1 awesome fish

If you don't like the idea of dropping a buck fifty on a single fish, get a smallish Kole Tang. Great little fish and he'll keep your tank sparkly clean.

Midas Blenny. Mine swam in the open with a rhythmic snake like motion and everyone love it! Wonderful fish!!!

I would definately get a tang. Purple or Regal would be nice. I currently have a regal, Yellow, Kole And Powder Blue in my 90. Will be upgrading to a 210 soon so no worries from the Tang Police lol. Powder Blue was last and the Ich blew up on all my fish but I fed and medicated through it.

+1 Just picked one up today and he's swimming with my Anthias

A tang would be great, but I had one wipe out a tank with ich years ago and that was after QTing it for over 3 weeks with no signs of disease, so I am just scared of it happening again.

Those that have tangs do you feed medicated food only when they show signs of disease or do you periodically give them medicated food? If so what do you feed? I currently soak food in garlic extract or Silicate a few times a week.

to be honest, ive had both my hippo and purple in my tank for a months, and havent had a sign of ich nor did i QT.. guess i'm lucky.

I added my Powder Blue last about a year ago and had to heavily feed and medicate through that, but since then everyone in the tank has adjusted and there has been no need to do anything other than spoil them.

What did you feed and medicate with?

Metronidazole, Focus and Garlic Guard. I made a food paste using those and Mysis and Brine Shrimp some vegetables like Squash, Zuccini, Spinach and Nori. Blended those together and froze then fed heavily. At least three times a day not large amounts each time but fed often.
