Hey Jack!

+1 on the not as overwhelming as it may seem (mind you, I am only 6 months in and have not yet had to deal with anything super serious).

I spend 30 minutes a week on maintenance...that includes all testing, water changes, etc (my kids do the feeding with adult supervision, but I count that as fun). The other 20 hours I spend are just for fun! (learning, watching, surfing for good deals, planning, stopping by Nemo's on my way home just to see what is new, etc.)

Boy, you really do have a long way to go.

Lol

Welcome to the addiction, I meant hobby.

For a while but my concern would be that the condensate pump is not designed to run for more than a few minutes at a time. If used for this, it would run a lot more and could cause it to fail. The catch basin under the unit has a float switch which would shut the AC off should the pump fail but that wouldn't turn off the RO unit.

You said condenser pump but I assume you meant condensate pump.

I personally have my rodi in my laundery closet and have the waste water connected to where my washing machine dumps used water. Also maintaing a saltwater tank is not as overwhelming as it may seem when you first get into the hobby. Just remember to keep up with your water changes

A condensate pump pumps out the condensate water that is collected off the evaporator.

'condensate pump' Yes, that little pump outside of the HVAC unit that pumps the water from the AC unit to the outside.

I have researched some key things.
1. use a RV hose instead of the common garden hose.
2. I may purchase a 2nd membrane to reduce the waste.

I think I am going to setup up a 30gal barrels stacked in my garage. For the short term, Ill pick up the water from the store, I only have a 29g so it will not be THAT bad for a little while.

My ceilings in the garage are ridiculously high so I have plenty of vertical room.

Now, were can I get some fancy 'rain barrels' They are all over craigslist, but I am afraid they are not clean enough.

Just use brute trash cans from Home Depot, there food safe and have tight fitting lids and are fairly cheap.

Any time like that spent with kids is always fun & worthwhile. They're getting interested in the hobby so it gives you a common platform to talk about.

Not the normal topics of "How was school(or your day)?" but topics like "Hey, did you see that....that fish just.....".

The "CUBE" is flowing and there is some life. We got the "COMPLETE" 29g bio cube from Atlanta Aquarium 3 days agao. I took all of their advice and replaced the bio ball and added an extra pump.

That same night the water was crystal clear, so 2 days later we picked up a 'very expensive cleaner crew' and 3 frags. I have no idea of the names, but one opens and closes :)

I think we will let that process for a few days then pick up a clown and Firefly

Hey...So We are coming along nicely. I just completed my 2nd water change and tested my water and everything is in the "GREEN"

We now have 2 clowns, a purple dotty, and a firefly.

I may be crazy, but it seems like at feeding time they all come out and to the surface wanting to be hand fed.

My kids say the Kenya tree, Anthelial, and unknown name have grown, but Im still skeptical, but they are thriving.

So its time for some color. Suggestions?

Here are a few pics... I think I have some unwanted hitchhikers.

You can run the waste line as far as you want.. It is the same size line as Ice Maker Line. I would not use the pump that moves A/C condensation. The waste water has pressure to push itself the distance. The pump uses power and takes life off the pump. Just my 2 cents.

And you always paid $20... Even for the 120 gallon and RODI..... Well the 120 was $200...
