I bought a hanna low range phosphate photometer today. I came home and tested my tank and then fresh RO supply.

Tank: 0.06ppm
RO supply(straight from blue hose): 0.12ppm

Ignorance was bliss! Lol.

So, treating my problem: I run gfo, I replaced it about 2-3 weeks ago. It is obviously working, considering that the water I've been using for my water changes contains higher po4 than the tank itself. If I go ahead and change it, will that bump me down lower, or should I keep the Current gfo in place?

Obviously my RO unit is going to need some maintenance. I'm buying a second unit on Monday, and I plan on merging them together and getting all new prefilters.

Stage one: sediment filter
Stage two: carbon block
Stage there:sediment filter
Stage four/five: 50 gpd membrane (waste water will be fed into a 24gpd membrane)
Stage six: carbon block
Stage seven: DI resin

I guess I'll trash the current water I have made, or use it in the 210.

Any tips?(other than feed less :) )

Already have that. That's what I run my gfo in. Should I replace the gfo, or leave it alone. The po4 was probably added to my tank on Monday when I did a water change using my current RO unit. It looks like my gfo had dropped levels in half.
 
The tlf reactor have almost been useless in my experience. They clog to easy. I would find a way to run it with a wider chamber.honestly a 2 liter bottle is perfect

O, wow! Ok, I thought gfo could only be changed once a month or so. This could be an expensive luxury. Maybe it is time to look into bio-pellets.
 
Did you test both twice? The Hanna test meters are wildly inaccurate...

I think Ralph owns some serious stock in some iron mines given his love for GFO! (ferric oxide)
Weekly? Really? Every time I change frequently my tricolor bleaches out to a solid white.
Next time your in my area Ralph I would love for you to stop by and see what I'm doing wrong.
 
GFO "can" last for months..... Tanks with abnormally high Po4 may need weekly changes as the GFO becomes saturated quickly. Once the Po4 as been controlled, through use of GFO and changes in the behavior that caused the issue in the first place, GFO then will only need changing when it starts to show it's ugly head again. Keep in mind the need to change it weekly could last quite awhile as Po4 needs time to slowly leaches it's way out of the rocks and sand bed.
 
RO fresh(from the can that I store it in):

1st: .06
2nd: .08

This is different than the test earlier. That RO water came directly from the fresh "good" line.


I'm assuming it is safe to say that my po4 is 0.06-0.04. Tomorrow morning I'll check again. I would not assume that weekly gfo changes would be nessesary for my lower levels.

I shouldn't have bought this thing!!! Lol I was happy when I was unable to tell what shade the other test kits would turn the test solution. I say this only joking. I'm glad to know that there is an issue, and it shouldn't be too hard to fix.
 
I feel your pain. I bought a Hanna bench PO4 meter and have a compulsion to test every time I walk by the tank. I just love a digital readout.
