How involved is you Significant Other in your Reef?

kirsten is pretty good about it so far. she thinks everything is way to expensive though.
shes the one who does all the chem work with the tank.
she could go either way with it. if i wanted to sell it all she would be ok with that too.

It's not Barb's hobby, but she's great about taking care of the tanks when I'm gone. No testing, just water top offs and feeding. I was able to "train" her (two artificial hips and all)
to replace the filter socks in my sump. Quite an accomplishment!!!
She get's some strange pleasure in seeing the micro bubbles go away when she does top offs. I think she believes that she's doing something really technical.
Only time money is not an issue is when she's talked into going to LFS with me and says "oh isn't that pretty -- let's get it!" Go figure!

Our tanks are pretty much a joint effort. I spend the money and she yells about it LOL. J/k she is actually pretty involved. She picks most of our fish.

Me and Kristie(Lady Sartain) have about a 70/30 split on the tank, she helps me position corals,do WC's,and things like that.

Well, he's not my significant other (yet), but he is a biologist. He thinks it's boring... the only fish that interest him are the ones that go good on a plate.

LOL. I just got that call the other night. "The GFO side of your reactor is making a cricket chirping like noise."

My wife is great, she loves the tank. Helps me feed it when I'm working and really appreciates it. I basically just buy anything she points out that she likes that is within reason.

My wife is wonderfully supportive. She bought me the tank as a BDay present a year ago and has picked out over half the corals in it. Actually, when I wanted to add something all I had to do was say "Honey, lets go look at corals and see whats in stock at our local haunts" She sees lots of stuff she likes and we come home with a few new residents. I just be the guidance as far as what should do well and what won't.

My fiance helped me build my cabinet for my 90g reef. I thought pictures would help illustrate --

This was me building:

And this was her helping:

I must give her props though, she pays enough attention to my reef hobby to at least know what to buy me when it comes birthday/christmas/anniversary time. She's responsible for a Vortech MP40, Eheim 1262 return, and SCUBA certification classes :)

That's hilarious.

Mine is pretty involved... mostly in telling me what to do to her tank.. I don't think she's ever had saltwater on her hands. I end up filling her ATO reservior more often than not... "I couldn't hear the pump sucking air when I left this morning".

She's going to get a crash course though since I'm having back surgery on Monday. No bucket toting for me for a while!

Julie is reading a ton and becoming more informed and passionate than I thought would ever happen. The only time she acts confused is if I am there to address whatever needs to be done. She does all the parameter testing but will not help me with the water changes, she just wants to laugh at me when I spill water all over the hardwoods and I have to clean it it up. I found her reading "Contientious" the other day which was pretty cool to me.</em>

my trish likes my tank and has her special corals. if i can get her to go the lfs or the frag swap she pics out corals and fish i then buy them unless they are not reef safe.but she watches my spending close lol. i think she likes it just doesnt want to act like it. lol

LOL Nice. I do have to say though that is some nice work on the cabinet. My wife came back from your house commenting on how I should do one like that, sheyah right.. :D More like I will pay a friend to do it for me, haha.

Oh dang Barry. Good luck!

Great thread! It's my hobby, my wife shows interest now and then on what's going on. She looks at, when I'm outta town, she helps, other than that, nada.

This hobby has outlasted 3 significant others, and was/is a thorn in the side of all of them. When b'days and Christmases come and they asked me what I wanted, they'd in the question with "and don't say something for your fish tank</em>" (literally, same statement from them all, and up to 18 years apart).

# 3 seems to have the most interest in it, but still, the very basic explanation over the phone of how to turn the MH light on proved to me that I'd always be on my own in this hobby, which is fine with me......

my other says i love my tank as much as i do her which i slightly true lol she lets me do my reef things alone thank god
