It's an asterina sea star. Most of the time they're harmless. Some people claim they've seen them eating corals before. A lot of inverts, like nudibranchs, take the color of what they eat. It's possible this one has been munching on something but maybe not. You'll find a lot of these in your tank as it matures.
 
I guess I will can him. I don't need his if he adds no value and may add harm.

I have a few of the other small white ones now. They seem harmless.

Asterina come in many different colors. I've had the orange ones before and they were completely reef safe in my experience. Pretty cool looking and beneficial imo.
