I have these little guys growing in my sump. Any idea what they are?

Hmmm does it move around? If it's motile I'd question its harmlessness.

The tentacle-like business end is what steers me away from it being a sponge, hence I'm asking if it moves (sponges don't move around like that either).

Jenn

They don't move and there are a lot of them. There are small dust specks that I think will grow into these.

I've tried finding an ID on the web with no luck. It almost looks like a Monipora entitling nudi buth isn't!

I don't think that's it as there is no food source. I think it is more along the lines of some sort of sponge, but not 100%.

I'm gonna let them grow and see what they do.

It's a sponge. I've got some in my frag tank. The root structure will grow out.

Do you really want your sump filled with those?

Not really, but it's a big dump and I need time to clean it.

Let it drain and expose them to air. That can do a number on a sponge.

It is 500 gal. That's a lot of buckets

Do you have any Anthelia or similar in your tank? Or Xenia?

Looks like it could be one of those. That newer picture is a lot clearer.

I don't have anything like that in there. It is a fairly young tank, only up since Jan. also that room is dark except for a small led bulb 15' away to light my QT.
