I'm stumped

not the issue here as I will disturb the sand bed during water changes and will vacume the sand bed every third water change

Bill - are you using Kent Reef Carbon by any chance? I checked your file - no purchase history of that product from me, but I just posted a new thread about a recall by Kent of that product. If you use Kent Reef Carbon - check your container for the lot number.

More info here:

See, now That my friend, is Service. :-) Saw your post on the recall and that never entered my mind but here you are looking out for Bill.

Actually Bill was the first person I thought of when I read the recall notice - although I think some of his concerns may have begun before the Kent carbon got into distribution.

Just goes to show you that anything can happen - products we believe to be safe, aren't.

Jenn

Jenn thank you for the info, I checked and no I'm not using Kent carbon, but I changed my carbon about a week ago and where I was seeing improvement has now reversed again.
I am completely stumped on this one. I have pulled everything out that was dying off, doing weekly water changes, added phosphate sponges, phosphate bag, changed carbon every couple of weeks. Phosphates still at .5 nitrates running around 10. Sps's all but gone, Lps's look washed out, mushrooms, palys doing OK but palys look washed out too.
I'm at the point of tearing the whole tank apart and starting over.
Rich those large blue tips and pink birdsnest I gave you pieces off are completely gone and the frogspawn I believe I gave you a head or two of is hanging on to its last breath it appears.

your rock and sand might be so saturated with phates that it could take a while to see results...change weekly in a reactor would be best.

The blue tip is doing great and when you are ready you are welcome to the whole thing back or a frag of it. You also gave me a piece of toadstool (doing great) one head of duncan (now 3 or 4 heads) and some palys on a shell (spreading over the rocks now). You can have all or part of any of that or whatever else is in my tank (well except my scoly). :-) Just let me know when you are ready and then come on over and help yourself. I didn't get any frogspawn from you but I have a nice one I got from Jenn some time ago. You are welcome to cut some off of it as well. I got an orange monti that is growing like a weed if you want some of that.

Thank you for the offer Rich but until I get my system back in control I'm not putting anything new in it. Whatever I put in now would probably just die anyway.
The toadstool leather I gave the frag from I threw it's carcass in the trash last week.
I just wish things would pick up business wise AND I could get paid for work we have completed months ago so I could get serious about putting the 150 up. When I do that I will essentially be starting over which is the point I'm about too any how.

It is all here waiting on you whenever you are ready. And I hear you on the collection issues. :boo:

Did you decide to chase that project we were talking about? As I said, I don't mind GOOD competition. It is the idiots I prefer not to compete against.

Started out this day by partially tearing apart my tank with the intention to scrub algae of rock and do a 10 gallon change. I noticed last nigh when I got home that alot of the rock looked to be loaded down with algae under the actinics.

When I started taking rock out and attempted to scrub with a toothbrush found it wasn't algae but new growth coraline and that is a GOOD sign. I contined with removing about a third of rock and vacuming tons of diatrus and what appeard to be old sponge but upon further investigation it actually looked more like decaying flesh of some sort and I don't have any fish missing that I can tell so go figure what this could be.

Anyway re-aquascaped the tank (if you can call stacking rocks ontop of each other aquascpaing) so I could see a whole large colony of beautiful Orange Recordia I didn't know I had. Knew I had a couple polyps but not a good sized colony as they were hidden behind alot of rock at the back of the tank.
I also found a chalice that had been missing for months and it still has life in it so maybe I can nurse it back.
Anyway I'm seeing color coming back on several pieces of blue tip acro (old Perry acro) and colors seem to be returning to many other pieces in the tank.
Keeping my fingers crosse tha maybe just maybe I'm on the winning side of this battle.

In any case 2nd weekend of March is a tank raising party at my house. Time to take out the old 90 and put in the 150.

I'm going to be in the market for about 100lbs of live sand to supplement what I have in the 90 who has a good deal on it?

Count me in on the tank raising. Just remind me as we get closer. Why, because I am an old fart and will forget. :-)

Remind you!
Who's going to remind me? if it wasn't for GPS I wouldn't have gotten home last night, I mean I was more than 2 blocks from my house and in my advanced years even that is a dangerous distance to be going.

Hey Bill, I will help with the tank swap if you need me, you are not that far from me just LMK if you need some help.

JB

Jaycen your help will be appreciated, I know its going to take 5 or 6 of us to move the tank. My son and grandson along with daughter n law helped me get off the back of my truck into my shop.
Right now I'm being cautiously optimistic but it appears my tank is recovering. It looks like several eyes of my favia have pulled through, I checked last night after lights had been out for a couple of hours and saw a large eye and several other eyes had their feeder/feeler arms extended as did several branches of blue tip acro. Color is slowly coming back and it looks like several heads of frogspawn are starting to look more alive and actually expanding some.
The chalice I found when I tore down rock deffinetly is alive.
As I said I am cautiously optimistic with the optimisim growing each day.

You gave me frags of green and orange monti, blue tipped acro, and frogspawn. I had a frag of your pink birds nest, but I killed it. Everything else is doing great in my tank, and I would be happy to give you some back.

Crossing my fingers for you WM , looks like you're making it through. Lot of offers to restock the tank too which is awesome.

thank you josh for your offer, I read about your near catastrophe in your thread hopefully you pull through as well

Thanks I'm keeping fingers crossed as well and I must say I'm surprised at the offers to help with restocking if needed. I always worked with the idea of sending pieces of my tanks DNA without charge in hopes that they keep passing them on and eventually if someone has a full blown crash there will be enough people with colonies they could help that person get back on track.

storms friday night put a damper to the work I planned to do at my house last weekend. So once again I postpone upgrading the 90 to 150 next weekend.
On another note it appears the bluetips and frogspawn that were hanging on didn't make it. In fact it appears the only SPS in my tank that made it is a favia that is still hanging in there and a decent sized piece of green plating monti. The monti started to take color back on but noticed this afternoon that its starting to look a little washed out again and the favia looks flat but I do notice several of eyes are feeding at night so I'm hoping it will make it
