Would someone please explain this practice in detail. Also how does sps react to it. Like will it close its poylps for a couple of days or loose color for a certain number of days etc etc. Thanks Also what is the best Iodine or is there a certain kind to use.

You can use Lugol's solution but it's easier/safer to use an iodine based dip like Seachem Reef Dip.

Those preparations have instructions on the label - basically add X ml (I'm not in front of a package to give exact instructions) per gallon of dip water, leave the coral in it for ~7 minutes.

I know with Seachem Reef Dip you can safely use double the dose for up to 45 minutes safely (per pers.communication with Jim Rogers @ Seachem) for pests like Monti-eating nudibranchs.

The corals may get miffed for a bit, but they shouldn't lose color.

What kind of iodine? There is more than one kind.

IMO stick with either Lugol's (which *can* be drug store iodine) or something prepared for aquarium use.
