Is RO a must with a water change?

I'm hoping that this thread isn't locked by the time I get home to read it.......

hey if its working for iceman then he should continue to do it.
personally, ive seen mojos tank a couple of times.
one should be so lucky to have the setup he has.
was he blessed? maybe.
i know its been through hard work that he has one of the best,
if not thee best display i have ever had the pleasure to lay eyes on.
time, patience, and WC's were the 3 things we talked about most.

Dawgdude I am just someone who works at warehouse aquarium. We do Water changes throughout the week. What I do at home with MY tanks does not reflect
the business and how they operate. Please understand that and please don't jump to conclusions that what I say here on ARC reflects the store. Anything I say on ARC or do is not what happens at the store. With that said all I'm saying is that I have been doing my
thing for the past three years and have yet to encounter a tank crash. If you want to denounce the way I run my tanks you are more then welcome. However; please do not try and think the store runs the same way I do.

I waiting for someone to admit that they not only never change water, but that urinate in it to make up for the evaporation!

Are we just expressing what worked for ourselves? I don't understand the emotion.
Good thing some are not in the same room LOL.

I used to use distilled water and have to pour in about a gallon a day so thats about 28 dollars a month then once a month 20 gallon water change so thats 48 dollars a month. I never even tried using tap water if you live where i live sometimes the water is brown lol. But its a really good investment. Typically you have to replace the filters once a year but if you keep the sediment filter swapped out it will make it last longer. Hope this helped

Where were you buying your water? France?

Kroger $0.29 a gallon
Wamart $0.30 a gallon

Just fill your own container

$15.00/monthly

Plus you never have to change filters ($$$), never have to worry about floods and don't have to worry about storage.....

Tony! You promised you wouldn't tell people I urinate into my tank to make up for evaporation! That and the salinity is dead on.
Iceman IMO having that under your name means nothing more than having that under your name. You speak for yourself and nothing more.

Oh and I used tap water to start my tank and for the first few months of top offs as per my LFS. Now that I have my RODI unit I use RODI, has there been a lot of difference, no.... but I have to drink a LOT of water to urinate the amount that I am evaporating every day.

Man you guys are so funny,I'm glad that there is different thoughts out there, just don't pee in my tank please.I think that everybody's input is VERY important,so please give your input cause it does matter.I also think that all of your tanks are beautiful.Feel free to come by and give some advice.TY Chris

No, but I've encountered an individual who claims to have urinated in his tank to get the cycle going....scientifically sound, but rather drastic!

A few summers ago, NYC had an equator-like summer. There was this stand-up, violin playing comedian in Penn startion. He said, it's is so hot outside, even NYers are peeing indoors! I thought it was a great line. And Rick, I woudl reply, but this is a family-friendly site. Good to hear from you and say Hi to Kirsten! :-)

I will tell you that I once "kinda" thought like that (little water changes). I believed that since I added everything that was depleted, and my skimmer sucked everything out, I was fine. and actually, it was fine. I also found enough big names to validate my thought pattern.

However, after more careful research, I realized that a skimmer only touches about 30-40% of the proteins in a tank, that trace elements other than mag, alk, calcium need to be replaced, and that the % of ions to each other can get all fubbed up. I also noticed that by doing 20-25% water changes every 2 weeks, my tank is thriving instead of "fine". I guess it just resets all parems by enough to keep things constant month after month.................IMHO.

every 2 weeks, 20-25%, RO/DI best, however, tap water works..........

Yes you can if you let me piss in your mouth,or better yet turn around and OPPS i need to use my manners.ARC has been good to me dont screw it up.
