Just realized a problem

Sorry to jump in for info, but I have a MH 2X250w setup with 4X65w PC. Do I even need to use the PC's or could I get away with just the MH? I'm going to be replacing all the bulbs soon and would rather not if I don't have to. BTW it has LED moon lights as well.

Thanks blakejohn. As I travel around to meet some of the fine folks here, I'll have to do that. I'm not in a big rush since I don't have a corals yet, but this will be a must for me since I am a see-to-buy kinda person. I really have no idea what different MH bulbs look like.

I would get a 65 reef as well, stated earlier by someone the 13 inch depth front to back is a pain. I had a 65 and loved it. Its 36 inch as well might save you some money on a light fixture.

Don't worry about that no hard feelings here

Edit: I am not trying to bash down the idea of switching tanks now. Honestly I have also realized that this tank will limit myself with my rocks. But when I first join this I was told here a 55g was a good tank to start with. But I am assuming you guys probably did not know the dimensions.

If in fact it would only hurt me by limiting my rocks I don't see it to bad right now. I am planning in keeping this tank for 3 or 4 years until I get out of college. I would rather have more frags or non frags around in SPS, LPS, some soft polyps etc.. By the way lets not forget my fishes.

I am more in to learning more in the fish and corals. I am planning in doing DIY rocks and I will also place inside some small pieces of live rock.

Probably my only DIY rock would be a centerpiece I have in mind.

Edit: But if I was to change my DT tank I would first have to see if I get lucky in getting rid of this tank with stand. If I do get a little bigger and better tank I might end up trowing away the idea of the in wall I had in mind.

Heres an update I found a 48" 6x54 T5 HO, Moon lights + Timer. The timer is pretty good and I am planning in adding Fiji bulbs with the white and blue T5.

Question for ya. You already have the MH setup correct? Why spend more money on T5s? I'd rather spend the money elsewhere. MH lights work great and you could use the money you're about to spend on a T5 setup on a new tank or whatever other equipment you're about to buy.

Another note... a 55 isnt a horrible tank. I had one for 2 years. I'll agree with others that a 75 is a better starter tank due to depth, but if its not in the budget then dont sweat it. I've seen many gorgeous 55 gallon setups.

Ok I think is clear some did not read my first post I do not own any lights and never have. This is my first time buying aquarium lights and I'm still looking around comparing what I should go for.

Ah, my bad. This whole time I thought you were saying that you had a problem because you had a MH setup and were worried that it was going to melt your centerbrace. :P

Yea I was worry if I bought a mh set up it would melt my center brace.

The mh set up I had in mind spec is in my first post.

With a mh set up I'm probably looking at $200 with bulb replacements a year maybe a little more than a year for mh and t5. Also not to forget the high bill on electricity depending how long you run them.

A t5 set up non mh I'm looking at maybe $100 on bulb replacement to me is nothing a year. But during my first year I would like to wait and learn more on led. I'm a bigger fan of leds by the way.

IMO LED isn't quite "THERE" yet as far as price goes. I'm sure some will disagree, but personally I just feel like purchasing a full LED system right now isn't a "waste", but is just a little early.

The advantages of LED are shimmer and heat. For the cost I can't see paying so much for those 2 things quite yet.

again,... just an opinion of an idiot who knows nothing.
