So I did the DIY thing and made one of these out of a house water filter and turned it into a Kalk stirrer (this is in the archives if anyone is interested). It is connected to my osmolator for top off purposes. The unit just flows waater down a small tube and slowly mixes the powder, but is not on a timer like some of the commercial units. But the million dollar question is how much KALK powder to put in at a time. In reviewing some of the threads on the net they reccomend filling the container a third of the way up and that would end up being roughly a months supply, but I have noticed my Ph which has been habitually low (8.1) creep up to around 8.3 (which is good) in the last two weeks. Problem is I do not want it to overshoot and am a little baffled on how to control it. Suggestions welcome

hey man. How big is the tank? and what kinda corals ya got in there? What you want to do is kind of like dosing alk. You need to test over a while to see if your supply is keeping up w the demand. I have a 140g system and load about 2 cups of good kalk when I load it. It is also dependent on how much water your ATO runs. The more your ATO fills your system, the faster the kalk will be added.. know what I mean....

Its one of those things that once you find the sweet spot you should be set for a while :)

hope this helps.

Tank is a 125 with a mix of SPS LPS and softies. Snowman how long does 2 cups usually last on your tank?

Meh.. around a month maybe month and a half. the kalk doesn't completely dissolve, so you need to dump it all out and start with fresh kalk eventually.
