At least I hope not. I dipped my zoas in peroxide to get the bryopsis out of the cracks (under normal circumstances this works great). Unfortunately this time my royal gramma was hidden in one of the crags. You can imagine how bad I felt when I saw the poor little thing thrashing about.

Its alive but Ive burnt its fins off. The fleshy parts are intact but the rays are gone. I built it a cave in a mesh breeder bag so it can rest and eat without having to swim after the food.

So my question is does anyone know how much a fish can regrow fins after an insult this harsh ? Is it better to just go ahead a euthanize the fish ? He seems fine except for not having fins.

I would euthanize....pure clove oil and tankwater.

30 drops per liter.

Fins will regrow to an extent but it takes time street him with a teatree based product it helps them heal and acts like a pain releaver he can recover and live for a long time

FWIW-
Melafix is an extract from the melaleuca tree, sometimes referred to as a 'tea tree' or 'ti tree'. Not to be confused (at all) with tea plants, from which we get drinking tea.

Tea oil is a mixture of camphorous and turpene type compounds (aromatic) some of which are potent chemically.

Turpentine (for thinning and cleaning oil based paint) is a related derivative, for example.

That is nice to know. I just read the bottle and remembered it said tea tree extract or something of the sorts. Thanks for the correction

It's a good thing you told me...I was about to take a swig from the bottle!

FWIW, H2O2 is a VERY powerful oxidizer.. Thats why is work on algae, and likely why is ate off the fishes fins. I would be VERY surprised if it didnt also destroy the fish's gills. They are unprotected and a common site for damage.

Melafix will make your skimmer go crazy use the marine formula
Also ON makes one that is labled as a stress reduser that will work and dusnot over actavate the skimmer you can git both at pet smart

+1

If/when used, it should be diluted and of limited duration. This is a very slippery slope for most hobbyists, IMO.
