What's the difference in the RO water at the lfs, and the RO water you can get at the grocery store? Is it the same thing?

Thanks

RO is RO... assuming the filters are fresh in the machine, which you don't know.

However, most LFS sell RO/DI water, not RO water.

So, can you use the RO water from a grocery story, our does the DI (de ionization) really make that much of a difference?

Some companies put a little "service date" sticker on the machine. You could always spend $10 on a TDS meter, and at least then you could check the condition on the first jug you buy, so you know whether or not to keep pumping.

You can usually see the quality in the water at lfs. Their tanks usually show it. I have bought grocery store ro and had bad hair algae problems after sooo.....

Dang! that's cheap! What kind of salt do they use?

You want RO/DI water for your reef. RO from Kroger will not give you 0 tds water and can lead to excess algae in your tank.

When serviced, the filters are not always changed. They go through a series of bleach treatments before they ever replace the cartridges.

On 2 different RODI units I've used, I get 4 tds before it gets to the DI unit. I think it would be safe to say that good RO water has at least 4 tds, Its the DI thats get that final 4 out for me down to 0.

I would get a tds meter and check...a few years back I used the ro water at publix, it was always under 10 if I remember correctly. everytime that I checked a lfs, they were above 30-40-50....
