I thought that wad what this is....it looks like flood light but says good for plants. I have it screwed into a regular clamp light holder.

i bought some chaeto about 3 weeks ago for my sump that i built with separate area for. i used the twist type bulb that you can buy at walmart that screws into a regular light socket. the type i think was ge daylight 6500k . i was told not to buy under 6500k because it will promote growth of other crap you do not want. it has over quadrupled in size and i already threw away half because i didn't need that much. i have been running my light 24/7 but i need to get a timer because it has plenty of growth. i also have seen no unwanted growth of anything else.

+1 on the 6500k spring lamp

You can begin 'feeding' the pods that will colonize the chaeto, but they only come out in the dark. I use crushed flakes in a little water and an eye dropper to spread it around the top of the chaeto ball.

After a few minutes you can flip on the lamp and see them running all over the chaeto. Great for your tank too!

I have water running through mine. I found the box for the light I use.

The chaeto needs to tumble so that all the surface gets exposed to light.
