Hey there all! Brand new reefer here with a 29g setup. Most of my equipment and info has come from Erik over at the Fish Garden over in Newnan, but a member referred me to the ARC, so hopefully I can get some objective feedback.

My tank is a 29g kit from Aqueon with a NO fluorescent. The light definitely looks more in the yellow spectrum and doesn't quite seem fit for a reef setup. However, I have not populated the tank yet and I've read conflicting articles on the importance of light on fish. I plan to introduce coral to the tank, but not right away.

My question is should I wait until I plan to introduce coral to upgrade the lighting or take the plunge sooner? I was planning on the Kessil A350W led system. I feel like it would be fine to wait while the tank is fish only, but I definitely need some outside advice. Thanks!

Lighting should be fine for the fish. Most people use the white/yellow color bulbs for quarantine tanks.

Thanks for the fast response LSU! Do you think the Kessil is a good choice as an upgrade?

I love the kessils. And if u decide to take the plunge I have a kessil A350w for sale. Just let me know. I'm in Dallas so much closer then most on here. But the shimmer is amazing even with fish only

Thanks Acan!

I was thinking the Kessil because it seems beginner friendly. I can just mount it on the gooseneck and it's good to go. Plus, I can adjust it which is also a bonus. With the MH I feel like I would have to immediately address cooling issues as well as how to house it.

Check out the new ecotech marine xr15 great small led that can also work well with a larger tank. The Kessils are also nice.

Thanks BC!
I've seen YouTube clips of the Kessil in action and it looks amazing! That shimmer definitely stands out! Would the 350 be overkill for a 29g? I was initially looking at the 150, but I was afraid it wouldn't quite do the trick.

I will check that out LSU. I was looking at the radion gen 3 just a moment ago. It was gorgeous, but pricey!

I have both if you ever want to check them out. I prefer the 350 because u can play with the colors. Where as the 150 is a preset color that can't be changed.

Very true BC, but they did just come out with the 160 which is a tad brighter than the 150 and is also adjustable. Tough though because it's brand new and $240. The 350 is $275 on eBay.
