I decided I wanted to setup a container to cure some old live rock I picked up. it is still covered in coraline. I know I don't want to add it to my tank because i may create a cycle and kill off everything.

I picked up the rugged brand rubbermaid 30g container.

I am using a mag 7 (overkill) its creating way too much flow but its the only spare pump I got to work with atm. I have it seated now in the tank where the flow is limited down some with it facing towards the bottom of the container but im worried about leaving it running while im not at home. Would I be able to unplug this during the day and just plug it up while im around the house or does the pump need to run non stop. I could trrow one of my nano koralia in there in stead but I was thinking this wouldn't be enough flow to create full circulation

for peace of mind the koralia would be fine while you're not home. Of course, run the 7 when you can but you'll be fine.

+1

I used a mag 7 for a while in one of my containers. Just throw a couple of large rocks to cover it.

Nanos good. I'd kill the rock first though id leave it running for a couple of months if you have the time add a small light to it and seed with fresh new coraline and pods then add.

This rock is extra rock It will most likely go into my 75g when I set that up but that wont be till sometime next year most likely. So I got plenty of time im pretty sure there is nothing left alive in it due to the fact that it sat outside in 20 degree weather for the course of a couple weeks.

I cleaned it in scolding hot water and let it sit and then rinsed it with freezing cold water thinking it would shock and kill anything else if there was something left alive in it.

I got the tub going with the mag 7 so far no problems

Have you seen those worms that during the summer they are dead and I'd you touch them then turn to dust. But when you freeze them they come to life. They still haven't figured out how that works.

I wouldn't turn it off. Stagnant water = disaster.

Just secure it, cover it with rocks or something. Just make sure it can't move.
