Soooo... Update... Today I got FedEx notification that a 2nd delivery attempt was made for my live rock. Roger said that he would send me tracking info once it shipped... Never got that. Not sure what happened to the 1st delivery attempt but now I have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up... Fantastic... It left Miami on Monday and I'm picking it up tomorrow... Is it going to be completely useless?

That Florida aquacultured stuff generally has a lot of living things on it. After 5 days...not so much. Sorry about your bad deal. I am with Kris about a refund. Be sure to open the box outside and not in your house!

So this is what I got... Not using any of it... Went to macon pets and found a couple interesting pieces... This is it right now...

I may change it up but I'm gonna let it cycle... Also have some dry rock in the back... We'll see what happens :-)

Come what may... I'll deal with it... At least it's not freakin granite... That's pretty much what the other guy sent me

I would still challenge the chage with my credit card...pretty sure its not granite but sure looks pretty solid. It does not look like any of the advertised rock on thier web site.

If i were you, i would go to a LFS and buy about 5 or 10lbs of live rock to seed what you just got and make it into live rock. When live rock is shipped, it has wet newspaper (or anything else that will keep it damp) on it to ensure that the living bacteria stays alive. judging from the picture of your trash bag full of rocks, it looks completely dry. That will become "live" rock in probably a year, if you have other pieces of live rock with it. Without any living bacteria on the rock it wont help. Like i said, just going by the picture, that rock looks totally dry, there for, all living bacteria or anything else for that matter is dead.

Edit: just saw what you wrote inbetween the pictures, that your not using it. Good call, i wouldnt either.

Yeah... I know it's not granite but it might as well be as solid as it is!

I'll challenge. I paid for "premium decorator" and at best I got base... I'll try to dispute it but either way... Live and learn I guess... Rearranged...

I feel good for you that you didn't end up with a fraud... well... At least fraud in charging your CC! Now you should've have said: "what I nice rock I got! Buy unfortunately comes late to me!" Remember your loosing your chances to re sale it! I just bought rock before as a dry rock, but I can bet that this rock had some nice aiptasia colonies and awesome cultures of bubble algae!!!

Sorry to hear that the rock isnt what you hoped for or promised. It is illegal to collect native live rock off the Florida coast. 10-15 years ago some groups were leased areas off the coast and allowed to place rock there to become "eco-friendly live rock". The quality of the rock depends on what each group dumped there. The rock is all quarried calcium based rock from inland. Unfortunately, most of it is very dense, rounded, and boulder like. Some have nice shapes, corals growing on them and are nice. A lot more is covered with hair and bubble algae, gorilla crabs, and mantis shrimp that are all abundant in that area. It sucks that you paid for the nicer stuff and got the boulders.

Yeah... I'm sure I'm not the first and probably not the last unfortunately... It was a $140 mistake that I won't make again!

Don't feel bad. They show some good looking pieces on their websites and make them look very tempting. And no, you are not the first or last to be disappointed. Some people get some decent stuff but most don't and a lot depends on the company. Some of the guys selling boulders spent millions to dump the quarried rocks in piles from barges

The rock that I used to get online was great several years ago. I've set up many tanks where people have ordered live rock online and more often than not I am not impressed and they could have gotten a better deal picking it out locally. I know that Kevin up at The Fish Store has about a ton (literally) of rock and is going to become a sponsor again. Something about stacking up the rock in the store and trying to build what I want has always been more fun to me when picking it out.

In 2007 i stummbled across liveaquaia,And ordered 45lb of premium rock.It was my very first time ordering online.Turnered out to be very good rock.Still have it today.

I think that I was just lucky enough to pick the worst site possible to order it from... Oh well though... Live and learn and then get lfs

The place I ordered from (don't know the rules for posting a nonsponsor link/name drop) was great. You have to order by the 50-70lb box and pick it up at the airport. The fiji is now boat rock like all other fiji but Manado and Tonga is airfreight from island to LA to Atlanta (then Augusta for me). I got a 55lb box of fiji when it was air freight and a 70lb box of Manado on two separate orders. Loved the surprise factor making it like Christmas and I couldnt have picked better pieces myself. Smelled like a fresh ocean breeze when I opened the box and I had live hermit crabs in the bottom of box. Total time was about 24hrs from island to me. Cycle took 11 days.

If you dont like surprise, Atlanta has so many great stores. The one local store I knew about (not Reefworks) sold 4.99lb fiji boulders that smelled like dead algae lol.

^^^^^^ +1 on what is stated above. Contact your credit card company. You did not receive the items purchased. The credit card company should refund your purchase and then your credit card company can go after the company that did not supply you the merchandise.

All it takes; one phone call from you to get the ball rolling!
