Made the upgrade. 25gal to 220gal

update on tests:

High range pH -8.0

Ammonia - 0.0

Nitrate - 40

put the paly in with the live rock it was attached to along with a plain live rock with some nice pink stuff on it.

I upgraded to a similar size. It’s fun. I have mucho mucho fish that went in pretty fast

It took my aquarium about eight months of various ugly stages to stabilize. It just takes time. I feed a lot of Nori, and that causes the Brown Algal film on my aquarium glass. Some in our hobby say it takes a year or two for a tank to really stabilize. I’m an 18 months right now, and the management is so much easier today. My coral have grown enough to actually have a little bit of warfare, which is a learning curve.

It’s a little bit of a trick to balance, calcium, magnesium, alkalinity and pH.

Take everything slowly. I added a small UV sterilizer as an insurance policy against ugly films. and carbon dioxide scrubber in front of my protein skimmer - in my case, this really increased the pH.

It’s a fascinating discovery of trial and error to see which coral and fish thrive with the water chemistry and the adjoining in habitants. A lot of fun.

As your coral and fish continue to grow, the water, chemistry issues well change, perhaps requiring modest future modifications to your operating systems.

So my foxface and file fish died for no apparent reason but I've been able to get my Nitrates to a detectable level.

Worst thing though is I'm dealing with a little cyano. I try to blow it off as much as possible and I've done a water change to try and get it. Right now I'm dosing some plankton from Bulldawg Reef to try and get rid of it. But I'm afraid I'm going to have to hit it with the chemiclean. I'm going to F1 in Monaco and London soon so I'll be gone for 10 days and I don't want it to get out of control while I'm gone. Ugh...

Going away for 10days with cyano in the tank will be detrimental. It maybe best to treat it with chemiclean right away so you can access it before going away for 10days. Your tank your very nice and clean. If it’s not covering your corals and if it’s remote in some section, that’s different story I think.

It's not covering any corals but it gets close to them in some places. I will do a treatment this coming week so I can see what happens and do a water change before I leave.

Oh, and when I return I want to get a few more fish. Right now I just have 2 clowns, a blue damsel and a sailfin tang. Totally reef safe is a must, I've worked to hard to build what I have so far and I'm not losing any coral because of a fish. Suggestions? I definitely want another fiji foxface. Perhaps a couple of banggai Cardinals? IDK

I can actively recommend a large fleet of Green Chromis and Athias. They add a lot of movement to the mid to upper water column. I would also add a couple of small tangs or the fox face. I have the same size tank and a fox face and 4 tangs keep absolutely all the algae gone. I can also recommend the smaller wrasses as they will keep a few different pest populations down and they also provide good visual movementand color, anything from the Halichoeres is great. In regards to your cyano issues I would say that is tell tale sign or insufficient nutrients, when you add additional fish they will likely help with that nutrient load so that some of the "good" bacteria can take over. I have sumplemented with sand/gravel from AquaBiomics and believe in that as much as seeding with older live rock.

Good luck and keep the pictures coming.
