Whats the diff between majano and aptasia? I went to Google images and they look identical to me.....what am I missing?

I had thought that I had a few aptasia popping up, but now I think it may be majano.

Would the Berghia work for majano's also?

Anyone out there get the Berghia with the powerbuy? Whats the result, are they aptasia eating machines?

The Scientific Coral talk mentioned that as far as majano goes, we're out of luck. They haven't found a predator that specifically eats majano and nothing else. Berghia nudis only eat aiptasia.

There is another butterfly that eats both. Not the copperband. I would go with the aiptasiaX route instead of letting them spread even more. Can you post a pick?

I'm at school....I should be working on my ENGL 1102 presentation that is due next week. Or even the ART Appreciation discussion topic of the week that I've got to have the first half posted by midnight tomorrow. BUT....hanging out with you guys and learning about corals, fish and lighting seems to be more appealing!

I will do my best to snap some pics when I get home tonight, but....by the time I do get home, I doubt I'll log back on here.....will post tomorrow when there is a break in the action at work.

Smoothie....what will eat both?

can you cut them off the rocks i got like 20 they look cool but when one moves next to my candy cane it hurts it i keep trying to get it to move but it stobern that way . they dont seem to bother zoos or pallys. i like them but they move around alot.

I have one Majano, it stays in one spot so I just keep an eye on it, if it becomes a problem then I'll worry.

P.S. It's been about a month since I first saw it:yuk:

We have had aptasia and use a sort of joe's juice. We mix pickling lime with RO water into a thin paste and squirt them with a syringe. It does make a little white splotch but disolves and helps keep pH up. LOL About once a week we go on aptasia hunts. If you can remove the rock and dry it out so you get all aptasia off great but ours mostly have corals on them or are to much a part of the rock work to be easily removed without completely re-aquascaping. I have a 14 year old that is pretty good at nuking them, she does show some interest in the tanks, sometimes if it fits in her social schedule and texting times.

I remember saying that only had one or two and they were kinda cool... then about a year later, I was killing over a hundred/week before I swapped out all my rock. Kill it before it becomes a plague...

Holy CRAP!

Well....I definitely have aiptasia....per the pics posted in this thread. Its funny, if you Google Image search some of the pics that they say are majanos are actually aiptasia (per what I am reading here).

The picture of the majano that someone posted on here earlier....its kinda pretty. Looks almost like a small dark green bubble tip.

I have a small clump, two or three, that may be majanos....though I'm not sure. Honestly, they look like some sort of toadstool that has popped up. I've not seen them anywhere else and they have been there for four or more months. The aiptasia is slowly starting to spread.....but mostly appear to just be growing.

Who out there bought some of the Berghias? What are your thoughts thus far? I had planned on buying two or three, BUT.....Scientific was sold out before I had the $$ to place my order.

this is what will happen if you dont kill them now.
