Mh vs LEDs

I'm torn and there is a ton of opposite opinions out there. I don't have a ton of money to spent so I'm thinking 2 controllable 24"s for a move to a more SPS dominate tank. So give me your opinions. Maybe keep one 250w mh with LEDs??? I just don't know. Lay it on me and your real world results.

MH is king.

You could supplement with LEDs; it would be a good option for dusk/dawn lighting and tweaking the colour of the MH. There are a lot of LED options out there, but if you're looking for the most control, the Radions will give you that. I think AI just came out with more controlability with their lights and they're cheaper. I'm not a fan of the chinese LED fixtures. The ones referred to as mm are crap. I've tested a few other of the low end fixtures and first gen AI fixtures and they've all been pretty crappy.

LED with T5 is another good option. We all have success with any combo or single.
I call tell you tho, you will be much better off by trying different combo/unit until you get what you like the most. ^^

I thought that the kessil a150 was the coolest thing over my 29 AIO cube. But I knew I wanted to go MH after the upgrade. I hung a 400w radium w/ coralvue lumen bright reflector way up high over the biocube to get everything ready for the move so that the acclimation to the new tank is as smooth as possible. My anemone bubbled right up and all the corals are way happier. Color is great with the radium standing alone. With the right reflector you can have adequate height to keep the temp in range without a chiller. Only thing that went wrong was my cyphastrea bleached out. I've moved it to the sandbed now

When I decided to switch back to MH, it was clear to me that there is no competition. LED is the imitator. MH is the real deal

LED with a combination of T5's can't be beat IMO. MH is old school, make way for the new IMO. LED's are and will be the future of reef lighting.

Leds all the way.. I know a guy with 25 years of reefing under his belt, 600 gallon system with 7 - 400 watt mh and he is about to switch it all to led.... just saying

This is where Im stuck. Ive got 2-250 (single ended) with 2 t5 actinic. The shimmer is good as well as color pop. The only complaint is electricity usage and not having the ability to ramp up and down. Some of the higher end units are just WAY to high. You can spend 1000 bucks easy. Thats 21.00 and inch:confused2:

he set up a testing tank a year ago with leds before he made the decision, just saying..
and I've been using LED's for the last three years..... never looked back

Home boy is fixin' to lay down some very serious cheddar for that size tank. Of course its probably not an issue if you can afford that kind of tank anyway:shades:
