more ballast help

gee this MH stuff i am not having the best of luck with. this morning when my lights come one my ballast started to make zapping sounds and the bulbs fired then went out. what happened and how can i test what needs to be fixed/ replaced?

Is it a single MH setup or do you have more then one bulb? Is this an Electronic ballast or Magnetic? Are you sure it was your ballast making noise or was it the lamp? Also do you have access to a voltmeter?

its a single bulb magnetic set up, the i plugged everything back up and it fired up. so is something on its way out?

If its that same 6.5k bulb I gave you then I would imagine its the bulb sputtering to live life just a lil longer... I used it for about a year on my fuge and I got it in a trade so who knows how old it was before I got it...
