What the best way to mount t5's right now my set up is mounted on 2x4s = heavy. should i go with 1x4s instead or any one got a better idea or pics? the set up is 8 bulb t5 with 2 icecap 660's .Its going on my 120g 4x2x2 with a 16 inch hood. Its going to have to hang from my canopy being its 16"

I think your canopy is too small to accomodate 8 t5s. How big are your reflectors? Even if they are two inches, you would have no room.

I said the tank is 4ftx2ftx2ft canopy is 16inches tall

I may see if some one could weld me a small aluminum frame.

I just did this same set up last week on my 110 -5'long. Im going from mh to t5 so I was a little nervous and I wanted to stuff as much t5 as I could so I was gonna put 8-60" aquctinic reflectors with two 660's. I settled on 6 48" Icecap reflectors and they BARELY fit. One I had to mount on the canopy frame instead of the hood and the Icecap LED moonlight tube had to be mounted on the frame in front because Reflectors aside the Icecap Endcaps are wider than you think. I am still running both 660's and I probably have too much light. 4 of the bulbs are Geisman actinic plus and the tank is still very bright. I used a piece of 1/4" plywood to mount the endcaps and two pieces of shoe molding glued together to mount the reflectors (approx 1 1/4" from the plywood so that they reach the endcaps when clipped in. Having the light pane significantly shorter than the canopy as well as using minimal amounts of wood helped with the weight issue, Ive got pics but I have to wait until I get home to post.

Love to see more pics and ideas.I wonder how well those mounts that tim uses on his t5 fixtures would work if I used made a rectangle out of 1x4s and could hang it high or low.

Here is mine. Mounted lights to a 1x6 on each side and mounted both to a sheet of plywood then used a third 1x6 in middle to help strengthen and add ballast to. Then added couple supports and steel eyes for hanging in corners. I skinned everything with thin plywood and stained it. I took 3/4 in conduit tube and bent two 90 degree bends into it. ( got this idea off the forum) hung up with support chains. Hangs about six inches above tank and lights only weigh about thirty pounds. I anchored it to the wall with anchors built to hold 75 lbs each in drywall no studs. I hold s nice and I can raise or lower for tank upkeep. I know is a bad pic but it was with my iPhone I'll take better ones later if u want me to.
