i picked this little guy (or gal) from Pure yesterday. it dove straight in the sand last night but was up around 8am and already picking at flatworm :yay: it also happens to be my first wrasse.

they did, some flashers (i think filamentous and carpenters) and a good bit of fairy wrasses. they had two melanarus' (now 1) about the same size both happy and fat. when i upgrade i'll prolly try to get a flasher from them.

i was on the fence about the price but its small, which i wanted.

A little slow music and some whine... LOL...

Females have a spot on their dorsal fins...

Let me know how it does around your shrimp. I've been wanting one for a while...

I have a melanarus as well and really like it. It's a neat fish.

Any problem with yours going after inverts? Shrimp in particular. If so, I may just grab a yellow wrasse.

Or get the melanarus for my mantis tank. I'm sure he won't mess with that shrimp. Not more than once anyway...:shades:

I just put 2 cleaner shrimp in. I was worried about the wrasse and the harlequin tusk. I put them in and got them on the rocks while the tusk was sleeping. The wrasse went for them, but I shooed him away. Since then, nothing. He hasn't eaten either of them.

Snails? I dunno. Probably, but I view snails as something I have to replenish every 6 months or so regardless.

Hey Sean, nice fish! If you have a flatworm issue, I reccommend reaching out to Jeremy at Sea. He has a few tricks up his sleeve ;)

I have one and they are GREAT fish. Give it 2 or 3 weeks and your flats will be no more.

unfortunately my shrimp died a few weeks ago so the only inverts are my CUC and a single hermit, so far so good. i doubt it would have messed with the shrimp since the wrasse was a little smaller than the body of the shrimp.

thanks, hopefully this will do the trick. he's been picking at the FW all morning, i left for a few hours to do some work and its pretty fat now :) been eating something in the tank today.

i also fed a few pellets which it went right after also :D

Thanks Pure!!

Agreed. Don't mind replacing the snails, but, a $30.00 shrimp is another story. I may just stick with a yellow corris wrasse for my DT, and still consider the melanarus for my mantis tank...

6line wrasse has always been a fish that caught my eye. Cool fish!

Yeah, I like the 6-line, but they've been know to go ape poop after a couple of months of being in your tank. I know every fish is different, but I've experienced this, and read about it as well. The yellow candy-hogfish is another little bundle of terror too. I'm hoping that isn't the case with melanarus as well. I love those fish!!!

Y'all keep us posted. Best of luck!!!

Had one... He was cool for about the first 4 months. Shy for the first 3 weeks, friendly for a couple of months, then BAM!!! It's like this little thing got ahold of some bath salts!!! He was chasing fish 8 times his size around the tank. He had my triggers scared to come out of hiding, and literally went after anything moving for no reason at all. I thought it was just a faze, so I watched him for a little while. After a week, or so, of this behavior, he had to go. He had other fish that normally got along with eachother so nervous that they started attacking eachother. After I removed him, all other fish calmed down, and peace was restored...

I'd like to say I'm exaggerating, but, I'm not. I took his candy tail back to the LFS...

I loved my melanarus wrasse...at first. Eventually he decided that snails tasted amazing. After a few dozen, I got tired of replacing them and he got traded back to a LFS. Still one of the sharpest looking fish I have owned.

Oops! I thought a melanarus was a 6line. Makes a lot more sense when you count the lines haha. It was the melanarus that caught my eye, they had a big one at Atlanta aquarium. I remember Rit told me what it was 3 or 4 times before I could remember the name to look it up when I got home :)
Very cool fish.

been out of the office the last two days but stopped by a few minutes this afternoon. noticed far less FWs and the wrasse was looking nice and fat :D my clown still doesn't know what to make of her new roommate lol
