My worst nightmare...Rock fall...12am....AHHHH

Reached in to move a frag...nudged a rock, another rock slid. All came lose from their epoxy. Tried to fix those two, and four more moved. Here I am, two hours later, 5 broken corals later, going backwards instead of forward. Such a mess...Insanely frustrated. Finally had everything dialed in and now I have to redo half my rock work and reposition a ton of corals that were happy.

This sucks, I guess the best thing would be to go to bed and deal with it tomorrow.

A thought that I learned from others. If at all possible have the rock stacked in a three point stance. If its supported in three positions it will generally not fall. If the weight is suuposed in three places it is distributed more evenly.

That's always a stressful thing. No worries though, you'll put it back up and keep on goin. Doesn't help that it happend in the middle of the night though...

if you can, put the rocks that are on the bottom, deep in the sand on the bottom glass of the aquarium..

most instability comes from shifts due to sand moving out from under the rocks on the bottom.

It always happen to me. But when it does, my rockscaping from the landslide usually look better than the first time for some reason.

My fear is your exact scenario, but one of the rocks hits the glass and ...

Eh, took three hours to get it back together and remount all the frags. I liked it better before but it's alright.

Just glad it's over.

That sucks man. Everyone should keep in mind that epoxy's holding strength is limited when applied to wet objects. Not really much stronger than double sided tape on a woodworking project.

Yea, i usually put super glue on both sides of the epoxy because it has no stickyness at all really. Even now, I'm scared it will all fall.

The worst part is that I'm always tinkering coral positions, and now I'm back to square one almost, haha. Keeping my hands out of the tank is going to be nearly impossible

I have a neon damselfish that likes to wiggle and dig himself holes around the rocks in the sand. No major rockslides yet but I can see myself selling him at the first sign of movement.
