Need a uv sterilizer recommendation

Holy $800.

When I was up at MRC a while ago, Tim seemed to think that there werent many products available that were worth buying due to the amount of time the water spent in the device... or something to that effect.

Oh, they came down about a little bit. I love mine and realize its overkill but hey, I got a GREAT DEAL

Check out Sharkbait's listing for his 25W UV's.. he's got several of them, buy a couple and plumb them in series...

I would probably get an Aqua Ultraviolet 40w CLassic. They arent too expensive and seem to have always got the job done.

The theory with this is the longer the time that water passes through the sterilizer the more effective it works. The hard part is you have.to take into the fact how big the sterilized chamber is vs how much water cM be pumped through it in a 24 hour period. Others is a lot of gray area when it comes to a uv sterilizer. Im still not sure if its cost effective or if there is another way to get the same resultz

If you are running it to keep parasites down, i don't know of a much better "immediate" soloution (aside from QTing and buying parasite free fish). As far as green/discolored water, activated carbon usually do the trick. Usually a good skimmer will help with discoloration as well.

They will kill a lot of benificial organisms: pods, phyto, planktonic bacteria. I think they are great for fish only, but in a reef tank, should only be ran when needed.

Growout /broodstock

These are for the clowns that are laying eggs and for the fish that are growing past
The stage of rods and can eat flake/pellet or frozen.

System will already incorperate a aqua c evo skimmer

Mainly for disease prevention of water. I was planning to run cheato in the sump

In a breeding set up, it may not be a bad idea to have one, just in case there is an outbreak of parasites. Or you can always keep a QT with a UV, that way you wont be frying all of the live food.

Beccamc you are correct the uv would be a bad.ice if it was hooked to the tanks that had the fry after research I have learned that the best method is to keep the fry tanks seperate from the system for many reasons. Fry tanks will have just air stones at first then after 2 weeks replaced with a sponge filter. Ammonia levels will be controlled by simple water changes my thoughs were if I can have prestine water quality in my growout brodstock tanks simple water changes would be just pulling water from stock tanks and putting into fry tanks then adding phyto and rods for them as needed in the seperate tanks

I thought most breeding setups ran a UV sterilizer.. (24hrs/day)

I'd seriously look at the units that sharkbait is selling.. they're used, but easily 1/4 the cost of that same unit, new...
