are the bags free-floating or are they in a media basket?...if they are free floating id assume you ned to change them at least monthly...i use a media basket from intank media with filter floss on top to prevent debris from going stright into the media i use ...i use chemipure elite and purigen and in this setup change them every 3 months

The bags are free floating. i still have the biocube filter cartridge in the first chamber and i have some filter floss in the fist chamber to catch some of the smaller particles. so would i be good to change only every 3 months as well? i also have my heater in the second chamber, but so far i have not seen it come on. tank stays at 78 degrees

with the purigen probably yes...carbon probably a little more often...thats why i use chemipure elite...stays good for up to 5-6 months supposedly, i just chan ge every 3 for peace of mind...id look into the intank media baskets though..itll keep ya from having to buy those crappy stock biocube filter cartridges

If you are using purigen, you don't need to run carbon. Purigen is basically synthetic carbon, with the difference being it doesn't pull out trace elements like carbon does.

finally got a picture of 'trey system' the Royal Gramma. also bought a Dwarf Flame Angel.

fish stocking is done. only planned adds will be a coco worm or feather duster.

yesterday i found my chalk bass. friday night and saturday i did not see him anywhere. he has jumped the back wall and was in the middle chamber in the back. had to shut down the system and drain the overflow inorder to get the fish trapped in my net and put him back in the display section. he swam kind of sideways for a minute then went to the rock and hid in his spot. have not seen him out yet. hopefully he will come out tonight when i feed.

that happened all the time with my biocube 14...had to get fish outta there regularly until i made my mesh top...they also make fishsavers at mediabaskets.com that prevent them from being able to jump back there ...i have the new biocube hqi which has a builtin fishsaver thank god

seems like all my naserius are dead. they have not come out of the sand when i feed like they used to. did my usual bi-weekly water change. bought a yellow diamond goby to sift the sand. and a koralia 425. when i fed the mysis tonight, the ones not eaten stayed floating around about 3 times as long and i did not seem to have the spot in front of the rock where they collect. i guess i cured a dead spot. i am happy with the results. of course it is the first day, but hey.

I only have one Nasarius and it doesn't come out every time I feed. The 425 is a good little powerhead.

i have several strands of what i believe is HA. i moved the splitter on the return to point at the top of the rock and now i see the HA blowing in the current.

i have cut down on my feeding, 1/2 cube mysis every other day and just enough pellets for the fish to eat inbetween, i stop the pellets when the first ones hit the sand bed.

i do a five gallon water change every other week. easiest since the jug is 5g. originally when filling the tank, i only used a little bit more than 20 gallons (because of rock and sand) so it works out to about 50% water change every months(4 weeks).

i think i am stocked to the maximum for a biocube29. not sure what i am gonna do.

i have finally seen 1 hermit left from my original CUC. that means i have 3 bumble bees, 3 torchas (i think, but 3 other snails that do not do into the sand) and 1 hermit. will a couple of more hermits help? do they eat HA?

Is it green? Only noticeable algae I had was brown stuff about a week or two into the cycle and some build up on the glass that I scrape every couple of days. I had a couple of the turban looking snails that mowed down the original algae. My hermits did seem to eat it but YMMV.

that seems like alot of food imo...in my biocube 29 i have 4 fish, if i feed frozen food i basically dip the cube in the water for 3 seconds..enopugh time to let a thin layer disperse through the water..other than that i feed pellets and occasional flakes...usually twice a day...but not many of each...if u are having algae problems id rec not using as much type of food that disperses through the whole tank..like frozen, flake, etc and use more pellets...u can spot feed corals and such with the powerheads off to minimize food going everywhere too

Stang, on the rocks, no it is brown. i scrape the glass usually 2x a week. there is some green algea that started on the sand but when i did the water change, i vacummed it.

if i may ask, what is YMMV?

i put the 1/2 cube of mysis in a shot glass with some tank water to let it thaw. one thawed, i pore it slowly into the tank and the fish go nuts for it. i would say 80% gets eaten, 10% goes into on of the 2 overflows in the back right and 10% floats for 5 minutes or more before settling on the rock. that is everyother day. the days inbetween i drop pellets a few at a time. since i only feed once a day, i am not sure how that seems like a lot. most gets eaten.
no corals so no spot feeding. just fish and rock.

well, my chalk bass jumped the back wall again. caught him with a net again, but this time he was stuck in the net. i hope he is not too hurt from me removing the net. i ordered a fish saver guard. hopefully when it comes in, the jumping will stop. i'll let you all know how well it works.

Looks good, man. I like the layout - not too many rocks but enough to give the fish hiding places. Can't wait to see what it looks like in a few months...

started to get alot of algae on the top of the rocks. bought 6 red leg hermits saturday. tank looks alot better. i hope to get another kortallia 425 for christmas. fish all seem happy. my chalkbass has not made it to the back chambers since i installed the fish saver.

glad to hear hes not hopping the wall anymore...i may have a used koralia 425 if ya need one...i have 2 of them but only have one in my tank currently..i ordered a 240 because i dont have many rocks in mine and the flow is decent with just the one 425..if the 425 and the 240 are enough flow ill be selling the other koralia 425..only had it for 4 months and its only been in the water for 2 months

i have a lot of suspended matter in my water. alot of the time i am very unhappy with how the tank looks. it was suggested i get a skimmer so i bought a used TUNZE 9002 from Aston Martin. the round cup did not fit in the back of my biocube so i also pruchased an after market rectangular collection cup. installed both last night. after i figure out the proper settings and have it running, i will let you all know if my water is cleaner looking. i hope this curesit.
